Minimum Qualifications

Education : (None)

Licenses / Certifications :

  • Certified in Basic Life Support or Heartsaver CPR with AED within 90 days of employment ( and one or more of the following) :
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant by the Texas Department of Health or
  • Graduate of a foreign nursing program with nursing credentials / licensure in country of origin or
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program (Certification or Registration preferred) or
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the Emergency Department only

Experience / Knowledge / Skills :

Prior patient care experience, required

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vitals, weight and vascular access condition. Report any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including vital signs, treatment parameters, and change in condition.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
  • Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed.
  • Participate in process improvement / quality improvement initiatives for respective department in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Serve in a preceptor role where appropriate.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes; follows safety rules; works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors;

and participates in organizational departments safety programs; adheres to all MH policies and procedures.

Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues and ensures clean and safe patient environment;

seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to nurse or charge nurse.

  • Participate in process improvement / quality improvement initiatives for department in collaboration with department leaders.
  • Participates in professional development and / or professional governance opportunities as appropriate.
  • Helps orient new employees as appropriate.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory / continuing education and skills competency;

supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
