Job Title : SQL Database Administrator (Hybrid)

Location : Boise, ID

Duration : Long Term Contract

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to support a critical upgrade project from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in a virtualized, on-premises environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of high availability (HA), clustering, disaster recovery (DR), and virtual infrastructure, with strong scripting and performance optimization skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the upgrade process from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 within a virtualized infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC).
  • Work closely with infrastructure teams to configure storage, VMs, and networking.
  • Support both production and DR environments, ensuring business continuity.
  • Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and backup / restore.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.
  • Provide on-call support and guidance to junior DBAs or contractors as needed.
  • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions to internal staff.

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise environments.
  • Proven success upgrading SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in virtualized environments.
  • Deep expertise in clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery (DR).
  • Strong understanding of VMware or Hyper-V virtual environments.
  • Proficient in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Windows Server (2022 preferred) in on-prem data centers.
  • Proficiency in managing SQL Server components including SSRS, SSIS, and Analysis Services.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Certified DBA (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate).
  • Familiarity with VM backup and snapshot strategies.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or Sentry One.
  • Understanding of hybrid disaster recovery strategies and off-site replication.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server licensing models and compliance.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory configurations, including Cluster Name Objects (CNO) for HA SQL setups, Delegated rights for service accounts.
  • Understanding of DNS configuration for SQL Listeners and high availability scenarios.
