Salary range : The current salary range for this position is $78,200-$123,400 (9-month academic year salary), however, off-scale salary and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than this range, are offered to meet competitive conditions.

Position description

The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology in the Rausser College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in plant developmental biology.

The department seeks applicants conducting fundamental research on the molecular, cellular, and organismal principles and processes that organize how plant form emerges in time and space, determine how plant development responds to the environment, or influence how plant form has diversified over evolutionary timescales.

Researchers working on any aspect of plant developmental mechanisms, morphology, organogenesis, computational morphodynamics, developmental plasticity, and / or evolution of development are encouraged to apply.

The candidate's research will be expected to integrate a broad spectrum of classical and cutting-edge genetic, genomic, physiological, quantitative imaging, computational analysis and modeling, systems biology, and / or synthetic biology approaches.

Applicants should also have strong interests in teaching and mentoring the next generation of scientists in plant developmental biology.

Candidates whose research programs include translational research bearing on crop improvement or on management and / or conservation of naturally occurring populations, particularly in the context of adaptation to climate change, are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications

The ideal candidate will :

  • Demonstrate evidence of strong research productivity, potential for funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research mentoring of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars.
  • Demonstrate evidence of expertise and scholarship within a relevant field such as, but not limited to, plant developmental mechanisms, morphology, organogenesis, computational morphodynamics, developmental plasticity, and / or evolution of development.
  • Demonstrate strong research skills and a potential to establish an innovative research agenda, to communicate their work effectively to a broader public, and to work with other researchers from diverse disciplines.
  • Demonstrate evidence of their commitment to working in an inclusive and interdisciplinary environment and their strong desire to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in ways that align with UC Berkeley's mission to meet the educational needs of California's diverse population.
