Job Description

The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure.
This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the server, messaging, and storage infrastructure, which includes the establishment of best practices and procedures to ensure the optimal level of performance, availability and recoverability of all facets of the Commission's infrastructure environment.
Required to participate in on-call rotation.
DUTIES
- Acts as Team lead for End User Services Team and backup on an as needed basis.
- Perform daily system monitoring and maintenance verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Provide tiered support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
- Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.
in accordance with standards and project / operational requirements
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures
- Collaborate with the networking team in the troubleshooting and resolution of escalated server, messaging and application related issues
- Works in confidential capacity with Technical Services Director Operates independently. Uses independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the department and staff as it relates to unit operations / services and BPHC policy.
- Working to help BPHC become an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by the BPHC Anti-Racism Policy.
