Work effectively and cooperatively with program staff, students, parents, and regular education classroom teachers to screen, qualify, and provide coordinated instruction and assessment to identified gifted student.

POSITION REQUIREMENT : This position requires a Washington State Teaching Certificate with the appropriate Endorsement to teach in the content area advertised in this posting.

SALARY : Salary depends upon applicable prior certificated experience, approved credits, earned degrees, and the FTE of the position.

Responsibilities
- Plan and effectively implement teaching strategies which incorporate cognitive and affective areas of learning matched to the individual needs and interests of identified students in a one day a week pull-out program.
- Participate in team meetings and work cooperatively with colleagues in curriculum development and the presentation of thematic units of instruction.
- Screen and assess applicants to determine qualification for the program.
- Administer Raven test to first graders in assigned schools.
- Teach NET lessons to second grade classes in assigned schools. Tabulate results of NET lessons; select and further test identified students.
- Evaluate and report student progress to students and parents.
- Serve on building committees as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Qualification for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the team of gifted education teachers at Libby Center.
- Demonstrates classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provides an environment conducive to learning.
- Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly when problems occur, and helps students toward self-discipline.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
- Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and an overall optimism toward teaching gifted children.
- Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet students' needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional strategies.
- Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
- Sets and attains high level of expectations with a commitment to using available resources so that accomplishment and growth occurs.
- Develops favorable relationships with students; listens to, cares for, and works collaboratively with them.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to learn new ideas and skills and to solve problems; the possession of a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Preference for experience in teaching intellectually gifted students.
- Preference for academic preparation, coursework, and possession of a strong background in gifted education.
