The Director of Academic Business Affairs in the Klingler College of Arts & Sciences is a singular opportunity to help manifest the college’s vision as a key steward of fiscal resources.

Primarily, this role is responsible for directing and overseeing the day-to-day fiscal operations of the college. It requires expertise in financial planning and policy, resource allocation, budget preparation and review, as well as expertise in data management and analysis.

This role provides input into college strategic planning and resource allocation decisions. It also oversees college hiring decisions as they relate to budget.

There are two staff roles engaged in budget and grant management that are under the supervision of the Director of Academic Business Affairs.

Issues and projects are cyclical in nature, revolving around the academic year.

Duties and Responsibilities THE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC BUSINESS AFFAIRS COVERS THE FOLLOWING KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop and maintain the budget for the College including unrestricted, temporarily restricted, and endowment accounts.
  • Manage and process associated documents and forms related to college staffing tracking including non-tenure track and part time faculty hiring, sabbatical and leave of absence savings, course releases and overload pay.
  • Provide oversight and budgetary direction for all faculty and staff hiring including but not limited to start up fund requirements for new faculty and establishing salary, operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide oversight for grant proposal budgets and management of post award monies.
  • Supervise staff, which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions, performance management, staff development, etc.
  • Provide data, analysis, and regular and ad hoc reports for the Dean to support planning and data needs.
  • Assist the Dean with strategic budget planning and financial models for academic programming in conjunction with Office of Institutional Research and Analysis (OIRA).
  • Work closely with various college offices regarding financial matters and commitments for the College of Arts & Sciences, visa application and processing, and employment access and account set ups.
  • Oversee all capital projects including scheduling and remodeling. Communicate as needed with external vendors regarding quotes, purchases, contracts, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all University and external policies, regulations, and laws. Serve as a resource to interpret and assist with business policies and procedures.

Establish and maintain financial controls.

Manage dual enrollment program.

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING FOR THE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC BUSINESS AFFAIRS

  • Strong data analysis, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with ability to work effectively independently and take initiative as needed.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strategic planning experience and abilities.
  • Strong collaboration skills, ability to build and maintain relationships, ability to work with wide variety of constituents, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior level executives.
  • Responsive and timely in responding to requests.
  • Strong computer competency to include Microsoft Office Professional Suite and demonstrated proficiency in the advanced features of Excel and Oracle E-Business Suite Applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain accurate documentation and records system.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC BUSINESS AFFAIRS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in financial management, accounting and / or complex budget development and management.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities PREFERRED FOR THE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC BUSINESS AFFAIRS

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit environment.
  • Supervisory experience
