EQUIVALENCY PROCEDURE

Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement but believe they possess the equivalent must submit an Equivalency Application Form including full supporting documentation and mail it to the Human Resources Department (this is separate from the online application).

All non-U.S. transcripts must be evaluated by an evaluation and translation service in order to be reviewed for equivalency.

The Equivalency Application Form may be downloaded from our website, www.peralta.edu, in the Human Resources area.

Note : Denial by the Equivalency Committee is final and cannot be re-opened for this announced position. If an applicant applies for an additional position in the same discipline that is subsequently announced, the applicant may submit an Equivalency Application Form by the application deadline date, requesting a new equivalency determination only if additional evidence is submitted for consideration.

Copies of diplomas will not substitute for transcripts

This means do not upload diplomas to your application, we only need conferred transcripts. (If hired, only then will it be required to submit official transcripts from fully accredited college or university.)

Note : A written evaluation by an official foreign credentials / transcripts evaluation and translation service must be submitted for Foreign Degree(s) (non-U.

S. degrees) by the application deadline date. All non-U.S. transcripts must include a certified evaluation / translation document certifying that your non-U.

S. degree is equivalent to a U.S. degree. All non-U.S. transcripts without a certified evaluation document will be disqualified.

Appointment to the position is conditional upon the approval of the Chancellor.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employees must satisfy all pre-employment requirements to work for the District which include, but are not limited to, the following items :

REQUIRED FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

Tuberculosis Examination : Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to submit evidence (either skin test or X-ray report) of being free of tuberculosis within the past sixty (60) days.

The TB test is a condition of employment and any expense must be borne by the successful candidate.

Fingerprinting Requirement :

As a condition of employment, all employees working for community colleges in the State of California are required to be fingerprinted within the first ten (10) working days of the date of employment pursuant to Education Code Section 88024.

The District Office of Human Resources processes fingerprints electronically. During the employment intake process, new employees will be given information to have their fingerprints taken at another location.

Immigration Requirement : According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Peralta Community College District is required to verify that all new employees are :

  • A citizen or national of the United States;
  • An alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States; or
  • An alien authorized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service to work in the United States.

All new employees are required to complete and sign a verification form and provide documentation attesting that he / she is a United States citizen, national, or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States.

District Policy : A Social Security Card will be required following selection and prior to completion of the hiring process.

The employment process cannot be completed without a copy of the Social Security Card on file in the Office of Human Resources.

Faculty Union : This position is represented by a Collective Bargaining Agreement : Peralta Federation of Teachers (PFT)

Position Information

Job Title : Temporary Part-time Health / Mental Health Services (Faculty Pool)

Time Base : 30 hrs / week

Compensation : PFT contract rates

City : Oakland

Job Description Summary : Laney, Merritt, Berkeley City College and the College of Alameda, at their discretion, shall determine the staffing levels and how it will distribute the 30 hours each week to provide health, mental health services or a combination thereof.

Provide health, mental health services or a combination thereof.

Minimum Qualifications

The District will provide the health services through qualified, tenured, probationary, or part-time faculty members who meet the minimum state requirements for licensing and the Title 5 Minimum Qualifications for a registered nurse.

AND / OR

Counseling Title 5 Minimum Qualifications and licensing

Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling.

Possession of a current, valid California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Clinical Counselor, or Psychologist.
