- Participate in patient and family teaching, working cooperatively with the healthcare team to maintain professional nursing practice standards.
- Make independent clinical decisions during scheduled shifts, maintaining accountability for actions taken.- Consult with appropriate managers or supervisors in complex situations requiring additional input.
- React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergency situations.- Properly delegate and supervise CNAs / Techs, LPNs, and Ward Clerks during shifts.
- Promote excellence through safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem diseases or treatment complications.
- Set care priorities for patients based on acuity and preferences, anticipating potential issues.- Initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment use.
- Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately.- Coordinate resident care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members.
- Facilitate healing by providing individualized, goal-oriented nursing care based on scientific principles.- Seek resources when beyond personal skill, knowledge, or experience limits.
- Explain tests, procedures, and disease processes to residents and significant others, following through on care plans.- Communicate and interact with residents and significant others positively and supportively.
- Provide counseling using emotional, intellectual, and psychological supports, utilizing other healthcare professionals if needed.
- Take steps to decrease stress and increase the effectiveness of residents' coping mechanisms.- Evaluate residents' progress towards goals, directing new goals and implementing revised care plans as needed.
- Document residents' responses to care and assure the confidentiality of resident information.- Accomplish nursing assessment through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process, interpreting age-related patient information.
- Complete thorough Nursing Admission Databases and initial resident assessments, documenting consistent findings.- Identify problems and nursing diagnoses by recognizing health problems' impacts on residents and families.
- Utilize resources to assess residents with new, unfamiliar, or uncommon conditions.- Perform duties as assigned, ensuring quality resident care in routine and emergent situations.
- Educate to enhance decision-making and promote understanding among residents, families, staff, and the community.- Engage in ongoing evaluations of teaching effectiveness, organizing and participating in care conferences as needed.
- Develop and implement educational programs and learning aides, documenting education accurately and completely.- Communicate with staff, residents, and healthcare team members constructively and positively.
- Assist in orienting new staff, travelers, and students, sharing knowledge and verbal encouragement.- Develop and contribute to nursing plans of action based on resident problems and responses.
- Transcribe and note physician orders accurately, utilizing past experiences for nursing care.- Document reassessments including laboratory results and interdisciplinary notes, writing progress notes accurately.
- Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings, applying information and engaging in unit goal setting.- Address unresolved patient, visitor, or co-worker issues according to Human Resources policies.
