OverviewThe Department of Anesthesiology is seeking an experienced RN to join our Acute Pain Service (APS) team! The schedule for this full-time position would be Monday through Friday, (4) 10 hour shifts (with either Wednesday or Thursday off) and some occasional weekend coverage.

APS RNs at Dartmouth-Hitchcock specialize in managing and alleviating acute pain for inpatients. They are a part of a collegial and cohesive team of anesthesiologists who specialize in acute pain, fellows, residents, and other APS RNs.

There are typically 2 RNs scheduled every weekday to cover the APS service.The role of the APS RN includes, but is not limited to : * Assessment / Management* Hemodynamic monitoring and assessment, including invasive devices* Setting up and managing local anesthetic pumps, including epidural catheters / peripheral nerve block catheters.

  • Invasive and non-invasive ventilator management.* Administering and managing medications including vasopressors, vasodilators, antiarrhythmics, sedatives, analgesics, etc.
  • Triaging APS consults / troubleshooting pages* Collaboration* Rounding with the APS team on inpatient units.* Develops strong relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team including : anesthesia providers, PACU RNs, Same Day RNs, inpatient nursing, critical care providers, etc.
  • Documentation* Scribe consult notes with the APS attending* Conscious sedation documentation* Education / Continuous Improvement* Continuous education of APS treatment modalities to other fellow nursing colleagues* Ketamine Infusions* Lidocaine Infusions* Local Anesthetic pump education and support* Policy writing* Order set modification* Committee Work* Pharmacy and Therapeutics Sedation Committee* Perioperative CommitteesThese are just a few highlights of being a nurse at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics in New Hampshire.

Performs other duties as required or assigned.Qualifications* Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.* Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with 1 year of experience.

  • Associate Degree (ADN) prepared nurses with 2 years' experience.Required Licensure / Certifications* Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required upon hire and as applicable, higher level per unit certification requirements as stated on the grid attached to the AHA and Life Support Policy* ACLS Certificate required upon hire in Endoscopy, Tele-ICU, Day Surgery Center at CGP (Manchester), Life Safety and Cardiology-Echocardiography
