Opportunity at a Glance

Walden’s Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) provides instruction to help students develop academic and professional skills for success.

OASIS houses seven teams : the Walden Library; Content Management; Content Operations; Instructional Services; and Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral Academic Support.

Following Walden’s Success by Degree framework, we align our instructional support with university-wide, degree-level learning outcomes.

Everyone in OASIS collaborates with teams across Walden to ensure we connect students with flexible, seamless instructional support where and when they need it.

Walden has approximately 9000 doctoral students studying in 26 programs. On OASIS’ Doctoral Academic Support team, we provide students with instructional support in line with the university’s doctoral-level competencies and learning outcomes.

The Librarian, Doctoral Academic Support plays a pivotal role by serving primarily as a library subject matter expert and providing direct support to doctoral students through synchronous and / or asynchronous environments.

The person in this full-time, remote role will be a member of the Doctoral Academic Support team and report to the Lead Librarian of Doctoral Support.

This individual secondarily support library services across OASIS teams. In collaboration with the other OASIS librarians, this role will help support our Ask a Librarian services, which may include email reference, webinars, group advising sessions, and one-on-one appointments for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert in information literacy and library skills on OASIS’ Doctoral Academic Support team.

Develop expertise in the needs of the students and faculty in Walden’s doctoral programs.

Participate in providing direct support to doctoral students through synchronous and / or asynchronous environments.

Lead or co-teach online or on-site library instructional seminars as part of Walden’s academic residencies program (on-site seminars would require occasional travel).

Create skills-support instructional content as assigned.

Participate in providing high-quality instructional services (, tutoring, webinars, etc.)

Collaborate with teammates and faculty to review course content and identify opportunities for skills support.

Maintain knowledge of the evolving content of Walden’s doctoral curriculum, goals, and expected outcomes.

Participate in thoughtful, student-centered design of curriculum, instruction, and support.

Participate in collaborative projects and initiatives across and beyond OASIS teams.

Collaborate with key stakeholders in academic programs, course development, and other student-facing departments.

Support other duties as assigned in line with Walden and OASIS priorities and student needs, which could include a Flexible Work Schedule on Evenings and Weekends outside of Regular Business Hours.

Must have Flexibility to Work Evenings OR Weekends As Needed.

Although Walden librarians are embedded in degree-based teams in OASIS, they also work as a collaborative, transversal library team across OASIS through information sharing, collaboration, and mutual support.

The doctoral librarian will support general Walden library functions such as :

Supporting Walden’s Ask-A-Librarian reference service, which may include email reference, one-on-one consultations, or group advising for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Completing faculty and staff research support on request.

Sharing information from the Doctoral Academic Support team with Walden library colleagues on other OASIS teams as appropriate.

Ad-hoc collaborative projects such as library service pilots, collection reviews, or data project

Qualifications

Earned ALA-accredited Master of Library Science / Master of Library Information Science.

At least one year demonstrated successful experience providing instructional services and reference services in an academic library preferred.

Experience designing and facilitating library instruction in an academic setting.

Interest in developing instruction using emerging technologies and experience with one-to-many asynchronous learning opportunities.

Demonstrated experience with educational / library instructional technologies and authoring tools (, Storyline and Rise) and / or web authoring tools (, SpringShare) preferred.

Strong understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy.

Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Value working collaboratively with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
