Rutgers, University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full Time Nursing Assistant for Southwoods State Prison, located in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
The Nursing Assistant provides direct care to inmates under the direction of a Physician, Physician’s Assistant or a Registered Nurse and or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Among the key duties of this position are the following :
- Implements physician / associate practitioner orders within the scope of practice under the auspices of a Registered Nurse.
- Assists with feeding, bathing, and other inmate activities of daily living (ADL’s) as needed within the Health Service Unit.
- Assists the physician / associate practitioner with procedures as needed, including preparing the inmate for the examination.
- Assists with the cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
- Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.

Graduate of an approved Certified Nurse Aide program with current certification in New Jersey as a Nursing Assistant.
Certifications / Licenses
- CPR Certification.
- Valid Driver’s License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes.
Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Special Conditions Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
