The successful candidate will have the opportunity to fully customize their schedule.

The position can be between a Twelve (12) Months or Ten (10) Months role

Part-time hours can range from 20 to 29 hours per week based on the successful candidate’s availability

Pay Rate : $17.67 - $19.53 per hour

HIRING RANGE : Anticipated hiring range is commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

INTRODUCTORY PERIOD : Six (6) Months

AVAILABLE : Immediately

BENEFITS : Paid Sick Leave Benefits are provided in accordance with California state law.

The University of Redlands acquired Woodbury University in early 2024, and the Strategic Communications Coordinator (SCC) will play a key role in implementing communications strategy and policy to support the strategic goals of Woodbury University.

The (SCC)engages, informs, and inspires key internal and external audiences including but not limited to students and prospective students and their parents, faculty and staff, alumni and donors, and the community through a variety of platforms and media.

The Strategic Communications Coordinator part-time role provides the opportunity for the successful candidate to customize their schedule.

This position will dually report to the University of Redlands Office of the President and the Office of the Interim President of Woodbury University.

Duties and Responsibilities :

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Writes and edits internal and external messages, emails, and other content as assigned.
  • Supports media relations initiatives, such as writing press releases, media advisories, and supporting story materials for media stories.
  • Develops and maintains a communications calendar to ensure timely and coordinated communication efforts.
  • Serves as the onsite contact for any media-related events or issues.
  • Tracks and analyzes social media and online content to inform communications plans and strategies. Assists in the development of crisis communications materials for pertinent events.
  • Conducts research to understand the needs and preferences of various audiences and tailor communications accordingly.
  • Upholds best practices and ensure consistency within all communications and with brand standards.
  • Participates as an active member of the President’s Office team, sharing information and collaborating with colleagues in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following :

Experience / Training / Education :

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in a communications-related field.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a good driving record is required. Note : Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment.

A valid California Class C driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).

Preferred

  • Prior experience in higher education.
  • Experience with crisis communications.

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Experience managing sophisticated communication strategies and planning.
  • Experience writing for both print and web.
  • Experience managing relationships with media outlets and journalists, including coordinating press coverage and facilitating interviews.
  • Well-versed in the principles and practices of AP composition and style, including an understanding of the usage of format and style as it relates to a variety of publication needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Exemplary communication skills, including strong verbal, writing, and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and interact comfortably with individuals at all levels of the institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance and respond to a complex and wide variety of projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and promoting the values of the university to ensure all are welcomed and engaged.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions :

Working Conditions :

Standard office setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings.

At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

Physical Demands :

  • Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; may travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work;
  • use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file;
  • climb stairs; peak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer;

hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and / or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
