Manager of Education, Professional Development and Magnet

Major Responsibilities :

  • Safety and Clinical Excellence
  • 1)Ensure compliance with IDPH, DNV and other licensing / accrediting bodies and agencies.
  • 2)Maintain Magnet status by ensuring the following : Alignment with the American Nurses Association's standards of practice;
  • timely and accurate submission of the demographic data tool to the American Nurses Credentialing Center on an annual basis;

timely and thorough preparation of the Magnet re-designation document; provide preparation and leadership for the ANCC site visit.

3)Collaborate with the Nursing Quality Analyst to develop an annual Nursing Quality plan for the nursing division to ensure achievement of top decile / quartile results for nursing clinical data benchmarked at the national level.

Identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate with various work groups to implement nursing practice changes as appropriate.

  • 4)Support staff in participation of quality improvement activities through established systems and promote evidence based practice by supporting staff to develop and utilize clinical guidelines, clinical pathways and clinical care policies and procedures that are based on current research.
  • 5)Assist and support staff in developing and maintaining competency through orientation, internships, educational offerings, workshops, interdisciplinary professional meetings and self-directed learning.

Maintain and analyze data to assure that staff development activities offered within the department is of high quality and meet the needs of nursing staff.

  • 6)Encourage staff to seek additional knowledge and skill by pursing formal education, certification, and other professional development opportunities and participation in professional organizations.
  • 7)Foster a climate conducive to educational experiences for associates and students.
  • 8)Contribute to and promote the advancement of nursing theory, professional research and scholarly activities.
  • 9)Create a non-punitive culture of patient safety and support high reliability units and use of Team Member Behaviors.
  • 10)Partner with patient safety to facilitate safe practices through participation in ACA / RCA and nursing peer review
  • Patient Satisfaction
  • 1)Review patient satisfaction data and assist in creating action plans as needed.
  • 2)Develop and implement a plan of care which fosters a non-discriminatory climate in which care is delivered in a manner that is culturally sensitive and that is reflective to the cultural diversity that exists within the patient population.
  • 3)Utilize an evidence based practice to improve care processes, structures, and measurement of client-centered outcomes and satisfaction.
  • 4)Implement strategies to assure that all associates understand and support organizational standards of behavior, methods for communicating key messages and methods which serve to increase patient satisfaction.
  • 5)Implement strategies to assure that associates understand when and how to implement service recovery and track service recovery issues to reduce their reoccurrence.
  • 6)Achieve goals established by system and site regarding patient satisfaction.
  • Associate Satisfaction
  • 1)Manage the recruitment and selection of high quality staff and maintain adequate staffing and appropriate work assignments.
  • 2)Provide supervision of associates and accept accountability for services provided within the department.
  • 3)Consistently round on associates to role model positive behaviors, monitor morale, follow-up on organizational initiatives, reduce barriers between administration and staff and improve team member retention.
  • 4)Follow established processes for receiving and resolving employee complaints and concerns.
  • 5)Facilitate participation of staff in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision making and support staff involvement in shared governance activities at both the area, house wide and system levels.
  • 6)Conduct timely performance reviews of all staff in which peer feedback is a mandatory component of the evaluation process for all associates.
  • 7)Model service and leadership consistent with nursing and organizational strategic goals.
  • 8)Identify and advocate for adequate resources for team members so that desired outcomes are achieved.
  • 9)Monitor team member satisfaction results and create systems to respond to trends.
  • 10)Monitor team member turnover and vacancy and develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Growth
  • 1)Actively participate in hospital committees, meetings and projects.
  • 2)Network with professionals at other health care facilities for clinical standards and innovations.
  • 3)Prepare business plans and financial feasibility studies for special administrative assignments as requested.
  • 4)Partner with local community organizations and schools to attract students to careers in health professions.
  • 5)Research literature, identify best practices, engage physicians in planning activities and attend specialty workshops in order to identify future trends in healthcare and opportunities for growth.
  • Financial
  • 1)Participate in budget planning in collaboration with the CNE and advocate for appropriate fiscal and human resources to accomplish the work and goals of the nursing department.
  • 2)Monitor unit productivity levels and workforce design to ensure proper resource utilization and role delineation and identify areas for improved operational efficiency and involve staff in the development of new processes as appropriate.
  • 3)Ensure appropriate use of IS systems to monitor trends and analyze monthly financial, operational and budget variance reports to assure that financial goals are achieved.

Initiate cost containment activities.

  • Physician Partnership
  • 1)Collaborate with physicians and members of other departments and disciplines in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services to meet patient needs.
  • 2)Partner with physicians in the development and enhancement of clinical programs.

Licensure :

Nurse, Registered (RN)

Education / Experience Required :

3-5 years progressive leadership experience *Master's degree in nursing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required :

  • Organizational, planning and delegation skills *Team building, leadership and communication skills. *Ability to succeed in a changing environment and handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong drive to achieve superior results
  • Current RN license in the state of Illinois. *Specialty certification preferred
