OPPORTUNITY

Our client operates in the VC / Growth Equity space and is focused on making strategic investments into digital infrastructure, enterprise software, rural broadband, and cleantech companies in areas underserved by traditional capital funding.

This is a well-established organization with the executive team holding a combined 100+ years of experience in capital markets.

Reporting directly to firm leadership, this Controller position is a hands-on role giving high performing candidates the opportunity to manage financial operations of the firm.

This includes, but is not limited to; financial reporting and analysis of all held funds, daily accounting functions, tax compliance, and investor relations.

SCOPE OF WORK

General Overview : Act as sole point of contact for all financial functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all tasks.

This is a hands-on role, and the Controller will be responsible for all fund activities across accounting, finance, reporting, tax, compliance and investor relations, as well as any other firm needs not explicitly outlined in this job description.

The below are general focus areas for this hire.

FP&A : Prepare and analyze financial statements, generate financial reports, finalize forecasts with leadership team, and provide in-depth financial analysis to firm leadership and investors.

Act as financial point-of-contact during all firm strategy meetings.

• Financial Management : Lead all financial activities including A / P, A / R, payroll, and GL accounting.
• Process Improvement : Develop and implement new tools, technologies, processes, and controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information as well as efficiency in ways of working
• Compliance : Collaborate with external auditors and tax preparers during returns and audit seasons. Ensure financial and operational compliance with GAAP, state and federal standards, tax regulations, and laws relevant to the venture capital and private equity space.
• Cash Management : Manage banking relationships (including fund transfers and investor disbursements), oversee cash flow management, and optimize liquidity to support investment activities
• Investor Relations : Provide all ad-hoc reporting requests to investors in a timely manner. Work closely with investment teams to assess the finance health of portfolio companies.

Provide guidance during due diligence processes.

Communication & Leadership : Partner with company leadership and internal decision makers to set operational standards and drive financial compliance initiatives.

Demonstrate executive presence when speaking with firm leadership, provide all requested reports, and act as financial point of contact for all questions.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA, CFE, or CMA certification is required
• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience. A strong preference will be given to candidates coming from the public accounting, venture capital, or private equity space.
• Demonstrated expertise with accounting principles, tax laws, financial regulations, and reporting standards
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where you are the leader for all accounting and finance matters
