Job Summary
Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is looking for an experienced and motivated Director to establish and lead its Project Management Office (PMO).
Under the direction of the CIO, the Director delivers enterprise wide, transformational technology and business initiatives that will positively impact students and employees.
The Director oversees the ITS project portfolio and its alignment to the organizational strategic plan.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, strategic planning, team leadership, and current PMP certification from the PMI.
The individual selected for this role must value the mission of the community college concept and be committed to student success.
Essential Functions
25% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff; identifies training needs and opportunities;
promotes professional growth and development opportunities among team members
- 25% - Oversees the ITS project portfolio including strategy, governance, team leadership, tracking and monitoring, prioritization, communication, and quality controls;
- collaborates with college and District leadership and stakeholders to define, develop, and deliver highly-visible, highly-impactful projects and programs;
responds to stakeholder questions and concerns with tact and diplomacy; provides expert guidance and mentorship to PMO personnel and project teams throughout the project lifecycle
- 25% - Establishes a centralized project management framework including project management methodologies, tools, standardized project documentation, and reporting mechanisms;
- implements project management best practices and industry standards for consistency in look, feel, and outcomes when working with the PMO;
drives continuous improvement efforts within the PMO to increase customer satisfaction with service delivery and overall results
20% - Develops key performance indicators and dashboards to monitor project performance on an individual project basis and the portfolio of projects;
identifies and mitigates project risks; advises senior leadership on project-related matters, provides recommendations, and strategic guidance for decision-making and course correction
5% - Performs related functions as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business Administration, Project Management or related field and six (6) years of experience leading an IT project management office, which includes two years of supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. Possess a current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
B. Master's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, or related field
C. Experience as a PMO Director managing complex projects and programs, preferably in higher education
D. Current, related certifications (e.g. PfMP, PMI-ACP)
E. In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and best practices
F. Experience presenting project status to C-Suite leadership
G. Experience using project management software to create project schedules, track critical path items, and overall project status
Special Working Conditions
This is a hybrid position with a minimum of two days onsite (2419 W. 14th Street, Tempe, 85281)
