The Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, Hazardous Materials Section isresponsible for the permitting of flammable, combustible, and hazardous material storage vesselinstallations.
The section permits and plan reviews the installation, repairs, and modifications onunderground storage tanks (UGST) and aboveground storage tanks (AGST) and related components.
Additionally, the section regulates the sale and storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LP). We are currentlysearching for a Hazardous Materials Inspector Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities :
- Supervises Hazardous Materials Inspectors.
- Performs performance evaluations and time approvals.
- Performs and assists with inspections within an assigned territory.
- Provides reports to management.
- Represents division for fire and / or explosion investigations and relaying service orders.
- Trains and mentors field staff.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
- Knowledge of KRS 18A, performance evaluation process and time reporting.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Possesses extensive technical knowledge of the 2018 NFPA 1, National Fire Protection Association and 2018 NFPA 101, Life Safety Code.
- Proven abilities to manage multiple projects.
- Conduct effective code research.
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- High level of customer service.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS : Must have five years of experience in fire safety or the inspection and / or handling of hazardous materials.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE : Related technical training will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION : Related technical experience will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.) : Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
Must have completed the FEMA Emergency Management Institute Independent Study Program 100, 200, 700 and 800 courses. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Working Conditions Frequent travel is required to inspect sites and respond to hazardous material incidents. Incumbent must be able to make oral presentations when requested.
Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS
