Job Details

As a Program Manager supporting the Biological Resource Unit (BRU), you will manage and maintain initiatives related to your assigned program, ensuring that department activities comply with all laboratory animal care and use regulations. You will assist in developing, reviewing and updating departmental standard operating procedures / policies, perform inspections and audits of facilities and work practices and help create educational programs for department employees and researchers to ensure compliance. In this role, you will also work closely with other compliance-oriented entities, including the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, the Biosafety Office and the Research Compliance Office, to coordinate and maintain a comprehensive program of compliance activities.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8 : 30 a.m. 5 : 00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will :

  • Develop, implement, manage, and maintain operational systems and activities.
  • Serve as a liaison with all levels of the organization and outside community.
  • Manage multiple priorities and projects with competing deadlines.
  • Allocate time to meet completion requirements.
  • Serve as a coach, liaison and mentor for other positions in the department.
  • Review and monitor adherence to Human Resources policies and corporate compliance procedures.
  • Assists the Director with developing compliance education for department employees and researchers.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and action plans, measuring the effectiveness of the compliance program.
  • Assist the Director with developing or revising policies and procedures to comply with regulatory changes.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of research work practices, driving changes as needed to ensure compliance.
  • Receive compliance complaints and inquiries and ensure all matters are appropriately investigated.
  • Assist in preparing formal responses to governmental or regulatory audits and inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all reported concerns, investigative findings, and final resolutions.
  • Promptly inform the Director and / or Veterinarians of any matter warranting their attention.
  • Provide training to BRU staff and researchers on compliance requirements and changes in research operating procedures.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field and two years of experience in project management, data analysis and systems training
  • OR High School Diploma / GED and six years of experience
  • OR Associate's Degree and four years of experience
  • OR Master's Degree and one year of experience
  • Knowledge of statistical and financial analysis, primary research and business plan development
  • AALAS LATG certification is required within 18 months of hire
  • Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include :

  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory animal regulations, animal facility operations, research methods using animals, and governance of laboratory animal research
  • Two years in a supervisory or lead role or demonstrated progressively responsible experience
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Ability to travel throughout the hospital system
