Position Summary :

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician. The Imielinski Lab studies the impact of complex and noncoding structural genomic variation in human cancers using whole genome sequencing, Hi-C, Pore-C, and other custom genomic technologies, including those that we are actively developing.

We are also investigating the immunogenic potential of these structural variants may entail for immunotherapeutic interventions in cancer.

The candidate will be responsible for performing advanced lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision.

The candidate will be expected to assist senior researchers and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Participates and performs other related duties as required.
  • Lab Duties - advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures.

In addition to those duties expected of an Associate Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment.

Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments.

Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures.

Maintains and updates technical knowledge.

Communication / Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information.

Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.

Judgment / Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy / procedure, determine and / or recommends the appropriate solution.

Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources / materials to endure accuracy.

Advises appropriate personnel of situations / problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.

Minimum Qualifications :

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator).

Effective oral and written communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications :

Degree in immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, genomics and / or biochemistry. Prior experience in cancer biology research.

Experience with cell culture and performing knockdowns and knockouts with shRNA. Prior BSL2+ training experience. Experience with CRISPR and lentiviral systems.

Experience with NGS library preparation specifically WGS, HiC, and ATAC-seq. Experience with sanger sequencing analysis of clones.

Experience with human primary leukocyte cell culture. Co-culture techniques involving human PBMC is highly desired. Experience with live cell imaging, multiwell plate-based assays is a definite plus.

Experience with DNA FISH. Familiarity with chromatin biology is a nice to have. Previous attendance and presentations at conferences is a plus.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.

The salary range for the role is $50,000.00 - $58,300.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.

The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses / incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
