Job Description :
Responsible for performing the planning, designing, implementing, and construction management of new, and / or modifications of existing high voltage substation and other transmission facilities.
Note : There is one position available, and this position will be filled at one of four job grade levels : Engineer I (Substation Design), job grade 7, Engineer II (Substation Design, job grade 8, Engineer III (Substation Design), job grade 9 or Senior Engineer (Substation Design), job grade 10.
This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire.

Senior Engineer (Substation Design)
Hiring Salary Range : $110,000-$151,000
Engineer III (Substation Design)
Hiring Salary Range : $100,000-$135,000
Engineer II (Substation Design)
Hiring Salary Range : $86,000-$116,000
Engineer I (Substation Design)
Hiring Salary Range : $78,000-$105,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education and / or skill level.
Responsibilities :
Perform, direct and coordinate the design, specification preparation, task implementation, construction, installation, test, and evaluation for substation facilities.
Develop the design electrical drawing packages for the projects to construct new or modify / retrofit the existing high voltage substations and other transmission facilities.
Develop and maintain standards and procedures for electrical engineering design and installation requirements for electrical substation facilities.
Develop contract technical specifications; participate in procurement of the electrical equipment and materials.
Provide project management in planning, scheduling, costing, coordinating, and monitoring system / facility acquisition and installation / testing activities.
Coordinate with Transmission Maintenance personnel to assist in the development of maintenance procedures and analysis of operations and maintenance problems.
Provide technical leadership and assistant for development and training of staff design engineers. Conduct electrical engineering design reviews of high voltage substations and other transmission facilities performed by staff design engineers and consultants.
Coordinate activities with other functional areas involved in completing assigned projects, both inside and outside of the company.
Direct the design, acquisition and operation of transmission facilities.
Coordinate or assist with emergency repairs, as required.
Participate in the development of short , mid , and long range transmission systems plans.
Make recommendations for improvements to the electric system that result in increased safety, economical maintenance and / or more efficient and reliable operations.
Provide field engineering support / assistance related to the bulk power substation equipment, and controls, as required.

Qualifications :
Education and Registration
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Registration as a Professional Engineer, with a preference of being registered in the State of Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, or New Mexico.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability :
Experience and knowledge of substation physical layout.
Expert level knowledge of electrical equipment, grounding, and auxiliary systems.
Expert level knowledge experience in relay protection and control design for electrical substations.
Working knowledge of electrical design considerations, operation and maintenance of transmission lines, power generation facilities and support facilities, including power utility communication systems.
Working knowledge of interconnected system operations and start-ups.
Working knowledge of government regulations impacting electrical substation operations.
Ability to direct / coordinate the work of others.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
Working knowledge of interconnected system operations.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Experience :
Eight (8) years of progressive experience in design, of high voltage substations and other transmission electrical facilities or related fields.
Note : The above requirements describe the experience and education qualifications for the Senior Engineer (Substation Design).
Those with less experience will be hired at the I, II or III job grade level.

Willingness to travel as required. (Must possess a valid driver’s license.)
