Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) – Contract Position About Isleta Elementary School (IES) :

  • Isleta Elementary School, located within the culturally rich Pueblo of Isleta, serves approximately 100 K–6 students.
  • Our mission is to educate the whole child through a foundation rooted in the core values of the community and Pueblo traditions.
  • The school integrates nature, symbolism, and ancestral heritage into daily learning, providing a deeply meaningful and supportive educational environment.
  • Currently, IES supports 27 students with disabilities and 17 students receiving speech-language services under active IEPs.

Position Overview :

  • The Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) is seeking a qualified and licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide direct therapy, evaluation, and case management services to special education students at Isleta Elementary School.
  • The SLP will work on-site and play a key role in supporting students’ academic and social development through individualized services as defined in their IEPs.

    • Key Responsibilities :

  • A.
  • Therapy Services Design and deliver individual and small-group therapy sessions.
  • Modify treatment based on student progress and needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support instructional strategies aligned with therapy goals.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions and maintain accurate therapy records.
  • B.
  • Evaluation & Testing Conduct initial and triennial speech-language assessments.
  • Analyze and report on communication deficits and needs.
  • Provide formal, written evaluations in compliance with IDEA timelines.
  • C.
  • Case Management Maintain documentation in the Special Education Service Log and NASIS.
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate with other service providers.
  • Manage physical and digital records securely per school policy.
  • D.
  • IEP Participation Attend IEP, MDT, and EDT meetings.
  • Contribute data, recommendations, and updates on student progress.
  • Support the development and revision of IEP goals.
  • E.
  • Child Find & Screening Conduct screenings for new students and those referred for services.
  • Support early identification of communication-related needs.
  • F.
  • Professional Development & Communication Participate in school-wide meetings, required BIE training, and staff development sessions.
  • Provide resources and training to staff and families as needed.
  • G.
  • Parent Engagement Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.
  • Provide carryover strategies for home use.
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences and conduct family surveys when applicable.

    • Qualifications :

  • Required : Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an SLP.
  • Experience working with students with autism.
  • Certification from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED).
  • Ability to pass a federal background check.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

    • Preferred :

  • Experience working in Native American communities.
  • Specialized autism-informed training.

    • Conditions of Employment :

  • Must complete and pass all onboarding requirements including a favorable federal background check before start.
  • Must be on-site and adhere to the IES school calendar.
  • Remote work is not permitted .
  • Contract SLP is not an employee of BIE or IES and will not receive government benefits (health, retirement, etc.).
  • All hours must be pre-approved and documented per IEP and school policies.
  • Work is based on student needs and IEP service minutes. 24 hours per week; additional hours may be required during summer school or to fulfill compensatory services.
  • Hours must align with school calendar; no compensation for school closure days or holidays.
