Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the challenges facing youth and families who have interacted with the juvenile justice system, foster care system, behavioral health system, and / or adult criminal justice system.
The successful candidate will build on BYA’s reputation and chart the path forward for BYA’s evolution as an essential community resource by nurturing established relationships and developing new ones to grow the organization and secure its sustainability for future generations.
Education and Experience
Expertise in fundraising and external relations : Proven experience in procuring non-governmental funding is crucial. Demonstrated success in securing financial support from diverse sources such as city and county agencies, individual donors, sponsors, grants, and partnerships.

- Assumes final responsibility for the overall development, planning, budgeting, and functioning of BYA.
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Candidates with relevant work experience in lieu of a master’s degree will be considered in the following areas : public administration, business administration, public health, social work, child development, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years as a Program Manager, Program Director, or other senior-level position in a nonprofit organization.
- Business Acumen : Proven financial expertise including managing at least a $2M budget, profit and loss statements, and proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
- Highly organized with exceptional listening, verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with confidence and compassion.
- Demonstrated capabilities and collaborative interactions to build ties, advocating and working with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices and treatment is required due to the nature of our work.
- A licensure in counseling or a related field is a plus.
- Experience in or a strong working knowledge of public school systems is preferred, but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Donor acquisition : Builds relationships with key stakeholders.
- Directs and coordinates joint public relations, public information, and community education regarding all programs and services offered at BYA.
- Board Relations :
- Facilitates at least bi-monthly Board Meetings.
- Reports to the Board the annual budget for the program and service activities of the corporation; directs with the Treasurer the administration of this budget via an account established for such purpose.
Provides to the Board complete information about the status of this budget and account; and recommends priorities or expansive expenditures.
- Provides overall staff direction, leadership, and coordination of activities; hires, suspends or terminates employees, and carries out the policies of employment established by the Board.
- Develops and carries out all contractual responsibilities of the Board; with all existing sources of funds and with community and government agencies providing referral services;
and develops and carries out other legal obligations as authorized by the Board.
- Directs and supervises public relations, public information, and community education regarding the programs and services of the Board.
- Responsible for the acquisition, improvement, and maintenance of property owned or leased by the corporation, and recommends to the Board the appropriate expansion, acquisition or sale of said property.

Hours
Business hours are M-F 9am-6pm. Schedule is negotiable, with flexibility on some evenings and weekends as needed. Hybrid option is available.
Compensation
Starting at $78,000 - $90,000 for 6-month probationary period at .75 FTE (full-time equivalent) with expansion to 1.0 FTE.
