JOB DUTIES
The Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Coordinator is in charge of the completion of resident assessment and care planning activities for all residents in accordance with accrediting and regulatory requirements, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
This position will also serve as In-Service Coordinator for the facility.
EDUCATION :
Graduated from an accredited school of Nursing. While not required, graduation from a nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE :
One and one-half (1 ½) years of professional nursing work experience. Work experience in long-term care, with Minimum Data Set (MDS), Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) preferred.
SUPERVISORY APTITUDE :
- For Registered Professional Nurse IV, must have demonstrated possession of supervisory aptitude. Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects;
- by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist;
by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
CERTIFICATION :
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Worker is required at the time of appointment.
LICENSURE :
Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
DESIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE :
Knowledge of nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and developments in nursing.
The ability to apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care; recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms or patient’s condition and take appropriate action.
In addition to those skills and abilities possessed by a staff nurse, the employee should be able to initiate and maintain working relationships with members of the medical staff, administration, nursing, and other departments and agencies affiliated with the hospital;
strong knowledge of CMS requirements and those of other federal, state, or private regulatory review organizations with which the facility interacts.
Knowledge of computers and understanding of MDS and RAPS are essential.
- Ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels; work as a team member; shows management, leadership, decision-making, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Perform as a member of the Long-Term Care, Critical Access unit and Emergency room leadership team. Serving as a group or team leader;
- or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or leadership capabilities exist; by completion of training course in leadership accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignment;
or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have full range of body motion including ability to lift or handle patients and equipment used in routine duties or in delivery of patient care.
Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye / hand coordination specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
