Job Description and Duties

PARK MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT COASTAL DIVISION / SAN LUIS OBISPO COAST / SAN SIMEON MAINTENANCE OFFICE

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU / Bargaining Agreement BU12 / 13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The reporting location for this position is 750 Hearst Castle Road, San Simeon, CA. This position will work under the supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.

The Park Maintenance Assistant will work with, and lead, seasonal employees to accomplish daily housekeeping tasks of the buildings and grounds;

and assist skilled employees in the maintenance, alteration, and repair of park buildings, grounds, and equipment, mechanical and utility systems.

Primary responsibility will be the District Office complex buildings, Visitor Center Maintenance Office complex, other associated offices, and the Hearst Castle Visitor Center.

Incumbent will assist as needed throughout the Coastal Sector, including assisting the grounds keeping unit. Ability to get along with the public and co-workers, and to read and understand written and verbal instructions is required.

Successful candidates must purchase and wear a prescribed uniform and adhere to DPR grooming standards.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Tuesday to Saturday from 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 30 PM.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Working Conditions

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and / or loud noises.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazard or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions. Outdoor work is common.
