Accountabilities

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Clinical Protocol Development will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and evaluating clinical protocols that enhance patient care and optimize medication therapy management.

This position requires a strong clinical background, excellent analytical skills, and a collaborative approach to working with healthcare teams.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical Protocol Development :
  • Design and develop clinical protocols for medical condition-specific medication management programs such as, but not limited to, Congestive Heart Failure, COPD, diabetes, hypertension, etc
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure protocols align with guideline driven medication therapy, and other established clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Evidence-Based Practice :
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews and analyses to support protocol development.
  • Utilize clinical data and outcomes to refine and improve protocols.
  • Education and Training :
  • Provide training and support to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals on the implementation of new protocols.
  • Develop educational materials and resources for ongoing staff development.
  • Quality Improvement :
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical protocols and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives to enhance medication safety and efficacy.
  • Patient Care :
  • Engage in direct patient care activities as needed, including medication reconciliation and therapeutic monitoring.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize pharmacotherapy for patients.
  • Regulatory Compliance :
  • Ensure all protocols comply with regulatory and institutional policies and standards.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BCPS) certification.
  • PGY-1 residency or equivalent experience
  • Current state pharmacy licensure or eligibility.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of clinical pharmacy experience, with a focus on protocol development preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacotherapy, clinical guidelines, and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and pharmacy management software.

Preferred Qualifications

PGY-2 residency or equivalent experience in cardiology
