GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION :
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) in our Community Development Services (CDS) Department will assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with learning new skills by providing opportunities to engage in community-based activities that support building social connections, socialization, life-long learning, recreation, and personal development.
their daily activities, on an as needed basis. This community-based position that will require staff to report to the home of the person supported .
This is PRN / float position. Must be available to work M-F, a-p or a-p or a-p ; Schedule is subject to flexibility due to the needs of the individuals supported.
Primary Job Functions :
- Provide coverage on a on-call or as needed basis to cover last minute staff call outs and provide coverage for scheduled staff vacations.
- Assists and supervises daily activities and on group sponsored trips and recreational activities
- Assisting with participation and exploration of the community.
- Cultivating and expanding independent living skills.
- Assisting with development of meaningful and personal relationships.
- Implementing strategies to achieve individuals’ personal goals.
- Assists people supported to identify and resolve social or other challenges.
- Ensures recordkeeping of activities, notes, goals, and other reports are submitted timely and accurately as scheduled.
- Ensures compliance with COMAR, Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), and Richcroft regulations.
- Models appropriate behavior and monitors and corrects consumer’s behavior including, de-escalating anger and frustration, assisting consumer in conflict resolution, and keeping consumer focused on activities or work duties.
- Maintains regular communication with residential staff and / or families, through written progress reports, meetings, and other agency communication streams.
- Follows instructions and abides by Agency policies and procedures.
- Assumes other duties, responsibilities and special projects as needed.
