Job Description Summary

The Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement advances the mission and vision of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement and the Leadership and Engagement area within the Division of Campus Life.

This staff member will develop resources, programs, and systems that support the members, leaders, and advisors of fraternity and sorority chapters and governing councils.

This includes supporting leadership development programs, campus traditions, and student-led initiatives in Fraternity and Sorority Engagement and other Student Engagement programs.

Job Description

E ssential Functions :

Collaborate with the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement and Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement to identify emerging initiatives;

design, develop, and implement strategic initiatives in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement.

Oversee fraternity / sorority community-wide programming, including but not limited to civic engagement initiatives, leadership development, and community-building events.

Design, implement, and assess signature leadership development programs, including the Presidents' Summit and New Member Orientation, to support the learning and development of student's engagement in fraternities and sororities.

Lead administration of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement standards program, Expectations for Excellence, as a guiding framework for chapters in the development of strategic plans and measuring organizational performance metrics.

Implement strategic plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion utilizing the R.I.D.E framework within the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement.

Develop tools for inclusive excellence and work with individual chapters and councils to develop plans for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Manage advising and support of individual chapters and governing councils at the university. Develop training materials to support the development of campus advisers and engage advisers on a regular basis for ongoing feedback, education, and support.

Manage day-to-day relationships with campus and community partners, advisors, and headquarters staff to ensure that services needed for the fraternity and sorority community are up to standard and that routine work is completed as expected.

Develop and implement prevention strategies to mitigate risk within the fraternity and sorority community. Collaborate with university coalitions, including : Hazing, Interpersonal Violence, and Alcohol / Other Drugs.

Manage budgets of chapter agency funds and review all Student Activity Fee funding requests submitted by chapters.

Manage collaboration with Student Conduct and inter / national fraternities and sororities to provide organizational support through the Conduct process.

Manage partnership with Residence Life and Housing for triennial review of lounge maintenance.

Supervise student staff in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement.

Interpret University policies and procedures for student leaders, council executive board members, chapter advisors, alumni / ae, inter / national organization staff, and parents.

Serve as point of contact for advisers, university alumni / ae, faculty, staff, and inter / national headquarters.

Assess effectiveness of programs and initiatives.

Other Functions :

Serve on a variety of committees within Leadership and Engagement, the Division of Campus Life and the University community.

Participate in all department professional activities.

Respond to students, parents, and partners as needed to address Fraternity & Sorority Engagement concerns.

Attend, participate in, and provide support for all staff training, in-services, retreats, departmental or supervisor meetings, and / or University committees as requested.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :

Master's degree in Higher Education or appropriate field and two to three years of relevant experience (two years graduate experience is equivalent to one year of professional experience) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus, with the ability to operate in a collaborative and professional manner with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse university community.

Superior written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to present views in a clear and compelling manner.

Exceptional project management skills to include the ability to plan ahead, prioritize, organize and lead multiple, concurrent initiatives;

seeing projects to successful completion.

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications and experience in effectively creating documents, reports, and presentations.

Ability to interpret, develop, and apply policy and procedures established within the University, the Division of Campus Life and the Office of Student Engagement.

Knowledge of student learning and operational assessment processes and procedures.

Demonstrated ability to think critically and proactively problem-solve.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and appropriate.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :

Minimum of three years of full-time experience in fraternity / sorority life or related Student Affairs field.

Knowledge of and a professional commitment to student development and effective higher education administration practices.

Prior experience advising social Greek letter organizations.

Ability to work with a diverse student population and develop rapport with students.

Accountabilities :

This position reports to the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement.

Works with minimal supervision.

Supervise student staff.
