Position Summary The Department of Theatre Arts is seeking part-time faculty candidates for the position of Lecturer in Theatrical Lighting & Practicum within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Science.
This position teaches theatrical lighting and serves as the managing electrician for the UIW Theatre Arts production season and those enrolled in either THAR 1191, 2192, or 2193.
Note that attendance is required at technical rehearsals and weekly crew calls.
In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.
Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the University include teaching with service and professional activities as assigned.
Benefits This position is not benefits eligible. Essential Functions Basic Instructional Duties :
- Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures.
- Prepare timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
- Adhere to UIW faculty handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and / or electronically).
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to teach industry-standard electrical design and hang techniques at all levels, beginner to advanced;
- Ability to communicate with the lighting designer;
- Ability to effectively learn, use, and incorporate instructional technology into teaching;
- Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening and weekend sections as needed;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts. Required Work Experience One (1) year of successful college-level production experience as a lighting crew head and / or managing electrician.
Preferred Qualifications Two (2) or more years of successful college-level crew or lighting instruction experience Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None specified.
Work Hours Must be available Fridays 1pm 5 pm, for show technical rehearsals, and for weekly crew calls as assigned; can range from 5 to 30 hours a week. Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, climb ladders of 20+ feet high.
- Agile dexterity to demonstrate hang techniques as part of instruction.
