General Description :
Under general direction of the Trauma Program Leadership, collects, maintains and analyzes data reflecting health care provided to patients in an emergency trauma care setting and identifies opportunities for improvement in care
Essential Function / Duties :
- Has working knowledge of the American College of Surgeons and Oklahoma State Department of Health Trauma Care standards
- Abstracts and analyzes data from patient charts including demographics, history of injuries and care provided according to the established guidelines of the American College of Surgeons, Oklahoma State Department of Health and OUH Trauma Registry for purposes of performance / process improvement
- Tracks trauma patients throughout hospital stay, monitors for outcomes, and identifies opportunities to improve outcomes through process changes, policies and education.
Assists Trauma Program Leadership in preparing for Trauma M&M, Process Improvement and Patient Safety meetings.
- Completes Performance Improvement activities through concurrent review of patient care data for identification of trends and early identification of complications
- Reports pertinent data to the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Program Director
- Serves as member of Trauma Operations and Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee
- Collaborates with Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Director and Trauma Program Manager, and applicable departments to establish and monitor Trauma
General Responsibilities :
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.
Experience : Two to three years of clinical trauma experience required.
License(s) / Certification(s) / Registration(s) Required : Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Previously attended (or attends within 12 months of hire) two of the three courses : 1) the American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program and 2) the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Injury Scaling Course 3) American College of Surgeons Trauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC). #CB
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Knowledge of principles and practices of trauma registry, medical records and policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of indexing, classification and staging systems.
- Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology pertaining to trauma processes.
- Database management skills, especially in abstracting and coding trauma related data from medical records and laboratory reports that are computerized.
- Good computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze information and mentally track multiple situations.
- Knowledge of Standards of Care, Evidence Based Practice and Performance / Outcome Improvement Processes
