The Controller is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Finance Department. Currently supervising a staff of three, the Controller is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly financial reports, the general ledger, payroll approval, budget integrity and gift entry into the Donor Database.
The Controller attends the meetings of the Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees. The controller attends regular meetings with the Development Department, other Departments as needed, the Auditors and Insurance Brokers.
The position liaises with ABC Caging, the Direct Mail processing company.
The salary range for this role will be 150K - 175K. This will be a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday, 9 AM 5 PM.
Essential Functions :
- Review monthly reporting package for accuracy and completeness.
- Hands-on involvement in the monthly closing of the general ledger including preparation, review and posting of journal entries and posting of cash receipts and A / P invoices.
- Review and approve all account reconciliations. Oversee monthly reconciliation of general ledger and donor database.
- Participate in the Annual Budget Process.
- Co-ordinate the annual audit. Prepare all schedules for Form 990- Not for Profit Tax Return.
- Review and post invoices for weekly check run. Prepare Positive Pay File for the bank.
- Analyze and approve biweekly Payroll. Prepare quarterly reconciliations of salary expense to Form 941- Quarterly Tax Returns.
- Attend meetings of the Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees and record minutes. Attend Board meetings.
- Meet regularly with Department Heads and Auditors regarding Financial issues.
- Liaise with Direct Mail Caging Company.
- Develop and implement process improvements to streamline the accounting function as well as implement improvements to internal accounting controls.
Responsibilities :
- Assist in the implementation and conversion of financial accounting software systems.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures manual.
- Assists in monitoring and reviewing accounting activities for compliance, accuracy and adherence to the Company's policies & procedures.
- Assist in developing the monthly, quarterly and yearly budget.
- Prepare schedules and analyses as required by management, external auditors and others.
- Prepare checks for disbursement.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- CPA or MBA preferred.
7+ years Accounting Experience.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- An understanding of not-for-profit accounting.
- Good system skills, including working with general ledger packages and excel.

- This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The office for this job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals.
For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy.
Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as guests and musical performers for special events.
