Essential Job Functions

Supports and models behaviors consistent with BillingsClinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and serviceexpectations.

Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agencystandards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or jobperformance.

  • Prepares room, equipment and supplies as dictated by aparticular examination, patient’s needs, and Billings Clinic exam and procedureroom cleaning guidelines.
  • Assists with scheduling appointments, diagnostic tests,treatments, procedures, and surgery.
  • Screens incoming telephone calls for appropriatereferrals to nurse, physician and / or non-physician provider.
  • Orders and maintains clinical and office supplies andequipment as directed.
  • Maintains patient records and other information. Adheresto confidentiality requirements.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committeesas requested.
  • Receives and prepares patient for examination andtreatment as directed. Obtains and records history and vital signs.
  • Assist in preparing for procedures and exams. Charts anddocuments in medical record. Collects laboratory specimens as needed.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment per Billings Clinicsterile processing guidelines.
  • Provides instruction to patients as directed byphysician, non-physician provider or documented in policies and procedures.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed tomeet the needs of the department / organization.
  • Proficient in basic patient care and treatment, planningand evaluating according to job description.
  • Competent to perform routine, non-complex aspects ofpatient care, treatments and procedures
  • Safe pharmaceutical handling requirements and guidelines
  • Application of personal protective equipment (PPE) forpatient and staff safety
  • Computer applications
  • Analytical skills necessary to understand a variety ofbasic and / or routine problem scenarios associated with patient care
  • Practices according to job description, guidelines andphysician judgment
  • Work is performed under supervision of a physician
  • Assumes responsibility for follow-up, and coordinatesappropriately with the physician and / or non-physician provider
  • Expected to prioritize all aspects of job performance
  • Demonstrates personal accountability in all facets ofrole responsibilities
  • Interpersonal skills which enablethe incumbent to appropriately respond to a variety of patient / family requestsand inquiries, to respond to inquiries from physicians, nursing staff and otherhealth care providers, and to check for understanding, allay apprehension andenlist cooperation of the patient
  • Ability to utilize and apply PSE skills
  • Communication with patient on expectations, e.g. beinglate for scheduled appointment, wait times
  • Able to assist with patient service assistance needs asnecessary and provide service recovery, e.g. coffee cards, lunch, gas cards
  • Work with leadership on service recovery as needed
  • Medical Terminology (available through LMS)
  • Adheres to patient safety goals and standards
  • Participates in Process Improvement or Risk relatedactivities within the department
  • Participates in the financial viability of BillingsClinic by ensuring appropriate utilization of supplies and equipment andmaximizing the flow of patients to maximize effective utilization of thephysician’s / non-physician provider’s time
  • Basic laboratory specimen handling and processing
  • Performs minor procedures to include but not limited tostitch and staple removal, application of dressings, etc.
  • Prepares medications per physician orders andguidelines.
  • Required to assist in onboarding and job training formedical assistants.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Vocational / Technical Dermatology Technician certification

Other Minimum Qualificatons

  • Six (6) months related work experience in dermatologyenvironment required to develop proficiency in basic procedures and processesencompassing all age groups, preferred.
  • Successful completion of department orientation, skillscompetencies specific to department
  • Completion of Personal Accountability class within firstsix (6) months of hire
  • Required to obtain certification or registration withinfifteen (12) months of hire through organizations approved by Billings Clinic.
  • ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of a formal medical assistant program;preferred
  • Association of Certified Dermatology Tech Certificationpreferred
  • Anatomy and medical terminology course or modulecompletion.
  • Completion of the Preceptor course, What is OperationalExcellence One and What is Operation Excellence : 7s Two-Identifying Waste inthe Workplace
  • Approval of Department Manager and Supervising Physicianwith no current disciplinary actions.
  • The following criteria could result in employee transferringto medical assistant status, and a reduction in pay;
  • Disciplinary action
  • Request of physician.
  • Lack of maintaining certification requirements, and jobexpectations.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experiencerelating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered

Employees that require a licensed or certification must beproperly licensed / certified and the licensure / certification must be in goodstanding.
