The Engineering Systems 365 (ES365) team owns the tools that make up the end-to-end developer experience in Office from source control and check-in experience to build, validation, and deployment automation, and we’re making big, bold changes for the better! We’re making it easy to build and ship applications across platforms and endpoints, and we’re moving away from proprietary, internal-only tools onto One Microsoft investments, open source, and industry standard tools.

Our team is at the core of Office, and Office is at the center of Microsoft's efforts to empower our users to do more. The Apple Fundamentals team focused on defining and improving the end-to-end developer experience in Office for engineers working on Macs, as well as handling 1000+ builds a day validating Office for Mac and iOS products.

We have opportunities that span a wide range of front-end and back-end technologies including cli development, back-end services, managed code, native code, cross-platform, databases, distributed systems, cloud services, and more.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer who has customer passion, bias for action, and deep engineering experience in architecting and delivering services and tools.

This role will require you to partner across organizations and divisions and presents an opportunity to help define and deliver the vision and technical strategy for improving our engineering systems.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers, product managers, designers, and partner teams to deliver a set of features with the right overall design and architecture.
• Own and deliver complete features across the development lifecycle, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, shipping, and servicing.
• Write clean, well-thought-out code with an emphasis on quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Be committed to delivering the best experience for our customers.

QualificationsRequired / Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years software engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C# and Python.
• OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years experience building highly available distributed systems at scale.
• 2+ years experience developing Apple developer tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with Azure.
• Demonstrated experience with Swift and yaml.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems, organize tasks, and prioritize responsibilities while collaborating with individuals from diverse disciplines, groups, and teams.
• Demonstrated comprehension of software development and project management principles, with the ability to think strategically and communicate effectively through both written and verbal means with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
