JOB SUMMARY :
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for the supervision of employees and daily retail operations at the thrift store, in addition to the facility’s overall productivity and profitability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :
Train, supervise, and coach store personnel while implementing Store Sales Policies as established by the Store Committee and work rules outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Make discipline recommendations to the Store Manager and Senior Director of Retail Operations / Associate Director of Retail Operations (SDRO / ADRO)
- Manage departmental structure, development, and proper stocking and rotation of all thrift store merchandise
- Maintain proper cash handling and Point of Sale procedures
- Plan and manage projects related to departmental function. Manage and support change with direct reports
- Respond appropriately and creatively to the challenges of operating a profitable facility via sales promotion and expense controls.
Forecast and plan sales budgets
- Maintain employee timekeeping with the use of a payroll system
- Coordinate charitable contributions and client services with the Service Center Manager
- Maintain a pleasant, professional, service-oriented environment by modeling expected behavior for other employees and promoting a sense of teamwork and good morale among the staff
- Make reasonable attempts to solve problems arising from customers, volunteers, clients, donors, and staff while utilizing de-escalation skills.
Any unresolved problems are to be referred to the SDRO / ADRO
Help with the recruiting process for open positions as needed. Conduct phone and in-person interviews as directed by the Store Manager.

- Meet deadlines for employee reviews and formal coaching expectations
- Communicate and represent the interests and needs of the store to the Store Manager and SDRO / ADRO
- Communicate facility maintenance problems to the Facilities Manager to provide a safe and clean working environment that complies with all state and local building and fire codes while implementing safety policies through training, reporting safety hazards, and correcting unsafe employee practices
- Attend management meetings as scheduled by the SDRO / ADRO in the absence of the Store Manager
- Work hand in hand with staff to maximize production efficiencies and promote a spirit of teamwork within the store
- Help maintain Google Calendar for proper time management proficiencies
- Responsible for completing other duties / responsibilities as assigned
- Must have access to reliable transportation to home location as well as other facility locations as needed for training

Store / location assignments are subject to change to meet operational needs and aid with staff training and development.
Daily assignments will rotate based on staffing and operational needs. An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

This position requires the ability to effectively communicate a wide variety of information to employees, customers, and clients.
Good listening, verbal and written skills are required
This position requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations necessary to manage a retail business, the ability to prioritize and execute responsibilities, and the critical thinking skills necessary for good decision-making.
In addition, this position requires familiarity with basic computer skills
- Knowledge of POS systems, Windows operating system, Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications required. Typing 35 words per minute is required
- This employee must have the ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse population as represented by the employees, customers, and clients of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
- Employees must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands to handle or touch product, tools, or controls
- Employees must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift / move up to 50lbs with assistance from equipment or another person
- Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties
- Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and reliably

SCHEDULE and BENEFITS
40 hours per week, shifts will vary according to business need and will correspond with open store hours : Monday-Saturday 9 am-7 : 30 pm, and Sunday 9 am-5 : 30 pm, so you never have to work late in the evening.
Weekend availability is required.
