Job Summary
Responsible for performing various technical procedures for patients and obtaining medical information from patients during their office visits and for using this information to perform related tasks.
Assists with obtaining pre-certifications and performing referrals when needed for patients. Accountabilities
- Obtains brief medical history and chief complaint from patient.5%
- Maintains patient's medical record via electronic medical record.5%
- Sets up and assists with office procedures.5%
- Performs within scope of training and certification to do procedures / tests including : Autorefraction using the Topcon auto-refractor, refraction using the Jackson Cross Cylinder Method, Humphrey visual field, OCT, IOL master, pachymeter, checking vision using Snellen Chart, Goldman Tonometry or Tonopen, brightness acuity testing, sonometric scans, stereo testing, color deficiency testing, EOM's checking pupils for affarent pupilary deficiency. 40%
- Assist physician by scribing, and performing various tasks during patient exam.20%
- Schedules surgeries, follow up appointments and referrals as requested. Obtains pre-certification for all surgeries. 5%
- Phones / faxes in prescriptions for medications and glasses per physician orders.5%
- Receives and returns phone calls, screening and forwarding those requiring physician action.5%
- Monitors and maintains stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. 5%
- Provides education / training to patient / family.5%
Supervisory / Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education : Job Related Course Work Beyond High School- Completion of Ophthamology Certification Program
Required Certifications / Registrations / Licenses
CERT OPHTHALMOLOGY ASSISTANT - C073
In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements
3 years of Ophthalmology experience will substitute for completion of an Ophthalmology Certification Program
