Summary
Adjunct faculty in the College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP) are responsible for teaching pre-licensure Baccalaureate nursing students in the classroom and / or clinical agency setting.
The faculty member will provide education in the preparation of the generalist nurse in the areas of medical surgical (beginning, advanced, critical care), obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, and community health nursing.
Under the general supervision of the Undergraduate Co-Directors, the adjunct faculty functions as non-tenured faculty temporarily employed by Lewis University College of Nursing and Health Professions to teach a clinical or theory section of a course.
Employment is on an individual course, as needed basis.
Responsibilities
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
- Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment
- Maintain required certifications / licensure and demonstrate continuing competence in area of expertise
- Participate in all course orientations with Lead Faculty / Track Coordinator as well as orientations related to Blackboard, technology, and information resources needed to fulfill teaching responsibilities prior to the start of the class
- Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with Lead Faculty, Track Coordinator and / or Assistant Dean throughout the course to discuss relevant issues and concerns
- Discuss individual student problems with appropriate Lead Faculty, Track Coordinator and / or Assistant Dean in a timely fashion.
Provide anecdotal documentation as needed.
Comply with all requirements of the CONHP for teaching, i.e. annual OSHA, hepatitis / TB updates, CPR certification, license renewal, current CV, etc.

- Comply with all CONHP Department of Undergraduate Studies requirements for teaching, including orientation to the course and clinical agency as required, use of technology, providing students with contact information, responding to students within a reasonable time, following the CONHP grading scale, and posting grades in a timely manner
- Be responsible for meeting site expectations for classroom / technology use and teaching at the site
- Within two week so of completion of the course, return all course materials (i.e. textbooks) and equipment to the Lead Faculty
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Nursing. Two years full-time clinical practice experience. Current RN License in the State of Illinois.
Must have schedule flexibility to be available for students. Excellent communication skills.
