Summary of Job Duties :
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse(s) and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention.
The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.
This is a full-time Monday - Friday Clinic position located in our Surgical Oncology Clinic.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications :
- High School Diploma / GED and successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
- Must have communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics, and accountability.
- Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.
- Customer service experience.
- Desires to work in fast-paced setting.
Preferred Qualifications :
- 1+ year(s) experience working in an acute hospital setting, providing patient care.
- Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.

Responsibilities :
- Provides direct patient care by acquiring medical history, vital signs, and lab samples.
- Communicates with nursing staff regarding changes in patient's condition and maintains adequate level of supplies required for patient care.
- Greets patients upon arrival to clinic.
- Schedules, registers, and checks out patients.
- Collects payments, issues receipts, and verifies insurance coverage.
- Transports patients to other areas of the hospital, as needed.
- Provides appropriate grooming / oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with physical activities.
- Documents all patient care activities.
- Adheres to UAMS safety plan.
- Complies with safety instructions and observes safe work practices.
- Provides input on safety issues.
- Serves as resource to support department members in performance of duties.
- Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
