The Manager of Education and Professional Development for MGB Care Continuum is a key member of the MGB enterprise Care Continuum leadership team reporting to the Vice President, MGB Care Continuum.

Manager is accountable for organizing, implementing and managing a system-wide approach to Care Continuum Education and Professional Development for licensed and non-licensed staff members in the Case and Utilization Management areas and education of key stakeholders across the continuum in pursuit of high-quality care.

This experienced leader will be accountable for creating a central approach to support local organizations in the areas of :

  • Pipeline & Recruiting
  • Orientation & Onboarding
  • Continuing Education
  • Career Framework

This includes :

  • Organizing a robust enterprise-wide educational program(s) supporting orientation & onboarding, as well as continuing education.
  • Enabling deployment of such program with a balance of central and local resources
  • Managing an organizational structure composed of direct and matrixed teams
  • Teaching best practices, high quality and safe care, professional skills, and effective use of enabling technology amongst all staff
  • Partnering with local leaders to support both recruitment and retention, as well as career growth
  • Collaborating with the central and local care continuum leadership team, Human Resources, Digital / IS, Finance, among others to promote an environment that facilitates professional growth, role competence, regulatory compliance, technical knowledge and skills, high quality, diversity and inclusion, and just culture.
  • Keeping abreast of new developments in the fields of care coordination, case management, care transitions, readmission prevention, social work, utilization management and post-acute care, and other areas as defined by the leadership team.

Modifying the program and training to ensure it remains cutting edge

To support these efforts and beyond, the Manager of Education & Professional Development for MGB Care Continuum requires expertise and experience in case & utilization management, professional education & development, strong business acumen, clinical expertise, and effective collaboration with health system leaders and front-line staff.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Manager will :

Organize, implement, and lead a central education and professional development strategy that supports enterprise and local leaders and staff.

An enterprise-wide strategy will include, but not be limited to including a program that :

o Educated staff at various points in their case management career, including but not limited to onboarding, ongoing development and education , and introducing and monitoring new processes or programs

o Educates staff on teamwork and leadership skills, including difficult conversations, facilitation, etc.

o Delivers clear outcomes in the form of speed to independent practice, higher staff retention, and reduced staff call-outs, etc.

Serves as a content expert in theoretical and experiential knowledge of case management roles (e.g., nurse, social work, non-licensed), processes, policies, regulatory requirements, and technology that support best practice education & professional development.

Stays involved in professional organizations related to care continuum. Uses this knowledge to continually assess and improve enterprise-wide education & professional development strategy

  • Implements educational programs using a variety of mediums, including role modeling, simulation, coaching and consultation with a balance of central and local delivery
  • Keeps current on issues, practice, and new trends related to the education of professional and non-professional case management personnel as well as overall strategies and program development related to high quality and high value care transitions and coordination of care across the healthcare continuum.
  • Leads a central governance structure that supports local leaders and organizations in the area of education & professional development
  • Manages a team in a direct and matrixed environment to administer competency-based trainings and evaluations and completes quality reviews of staff work and a) coordinates with managers to provide formal and informal feedback and b) improves training materials and approach to improve performance.
  • Participates in hiring, evaluations, discipline, corrective action plans and workplace investigations, as needed
  • Participates in development of programs / systems to meet the requirements of state and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
  • Engages in root cause analysis and implements / supports improvement efforts.
  • Represents Care Continuum on committees as needed
  • Collaborates with interprofessional, internal and external leadership teams and staff to advance the work and foster peer support and networking
  • Identifies own learning needs and goals and designs a plan to meet them
  • Demonstrates professional, courteous, and respectful demeanor Advances an education & professional development program that both determines training resource requirements for designated programs and promotes cost effective delivery of such program within budget
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Team to be developed, but will include supervisory responsibilities with direct reporting relationships, as well as indirect oversight of local teams via matrixed structure across MGB Academic Medical Centers and Community Hospitals.
  • Responsible for managing enterprise resources appropriately. Once the program is built, this leader will assume responsibility for metrics related to recruitment and retention of case management staff (case managers and non-licensed staff).

They also have accountability for education related to utilization management which ties into financial revenue for the care continuum aspects of utilization management.

  • This position is a remote / hybrid working model
  • This role may also require occasional local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and / or conferences.
  • Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years working in a leadership role with experience in case and / or utilization management.
  • Experience with building a clinical education and / or professional development program in a healthcare setting required.
  • Bachelor’s degree, required. Master’s or professional degree in healthcare or related field, preferred. Clinical degree strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated evidence of competent professional practice in clinical area of case and utilization management
  • Expertise in articulating and leading training and education programs.
  • An understanding of healthcare economics and regulatory and payor compliance in the acute care, ambulatory, post-acute settings.
  • Extensive knowledge base of care management, social work, reimbursement methodologies, discharge planning, utilization management, community resources and related regulations.
