CHIEF ESTIMATOR COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

The Estimating Team at Michael Kinder and Sons is looking for the successor to our Chief Estimator position. This is a great opportunity for either an established Chief Estimator or a highly qualified Senior Estimator looking to grow into a department leader.

A personalized learning plan will be established to meet learning needs including positional training from the current Chief Estimator and leadership training from the Chief Talent Officer.

The MKS Estimating Team is focused on preparing detailed estimates and proposals for negotiated and hard bid projects ranging from $100k to $100MM.

Projects from multiple industries, including universities to restaurants to industrial to nonprofit, etc., may include conceptional, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates.

Senior Estimators who value client satisfaction rather than a race to the lowest bid would excel at Michael Kinder & Sons as MKS estimators do more than procure numbers;

YOUR EXPECTATIONS

INTERPRET DESIGNS ACCURATE HARD NUMBERS EDUCATE OWNERS

  • Provide servant leadership to the MKS Estimating Department through :
  • Communication lead effective one-on-one and team meetings.
  • Accountability establishing goals and holding the team accountable for achieving them
  • Training determining team and individual needs and aiding in the development of training plans
  • Engagement setting the tone for a safe, engaging environment
  • Results identifying problems or opportunities and working with the team to develop solutions
  • Allocate department resources, especially in scheduling the team with high efficiency.
  • Interpret drawings, scopes of work, and MKS self-perform specifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of CSI Divisions 0-33 and a comprehensive understanding of the remaining CSI Divisions.
  • Ability to perform accurate digital quantity take-offs using appropriate take-off software.
  • Insert and price construction projects using Timberline software.
  • Proficiency in using Procore software for subcontractor solicitation, vendor contact information, and bid invitations.
  • Vendor relationship & solicitation for up-to-date material pricing.
  • Strong ability to consult and build relationships with clients, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Create project timelines using Microsoft Project for preconstruction, procurement, and construction schedules.
  • Develop and maintain a program strategy for the preconstruction process to ensure it stays on schedule and within budget.
  • Assist in maintaining / updating estimating procedures to continually improve the department.
  • Prepare turnover books for estimating to project manager transition.
  • Prepare complete and detailed written Work Packages for MKS design-build projects.
  • Strategic planner and problem solver, integrating multiple project components to minimize conflicts and discrepancies.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Education bachelor’s degree in an accredited Construction Management or Civil Engineering Program
  • Minimum Working Experience
  • Commercial Construction 10 years
  • Estimating Software 5 years
  • Estimating Experience 5 years
  • Excellent writing, organizational and computer skills (MS Excel, MS Word)
  • Required in-depth knowledge of plans and specifications on various construction project types.
