Mission
The primary responsibility of the Unreal / 3D Lead Artist is to create Unreal environments for Virtual Production as well as A / R, V / R, 360, and shared reality for all videos and digital experiences Vossler produces.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the creation of highly realistic Unreal environments in collaboration with creative and production teams.
- Help create and optimize 3D / Unreal workflows from conception to completion.
- Optimize previz process for internal and external reviews.
- Collaborate with Creatives and Producers to review new projects and help with estimating effort and ideation. This includes accurately estimating level of effort for project budgets and schedules in coordination with Creative, Production and Post-Production leads to ensure that project goals are met.
- Work on multiple projects concurrently, meet review schedules, and balance time constraints.
- Identify staffing needs for 3D and Unreal project workflows and recommend freelance contractors to meet production needs from freelance roster.
- Oversee and provide guidance to junior members of the animation team.
- Manage feedback and creative with clients throughout the duration of projects.
- Explore and teach new trends, stay up-to-date with plug-ins and techniques.
- Help establish and maintain excellent file management protocols (file naming conventions, compression settings, folder structure).
- Consult on hardware / software platforms to ensure highest efficiency and dependable outputs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Animation / Motion Design or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 10+ years of full proficiency experience as an Animator / Motion Design Artist or similar.
- Solid grounding in Unreal, with at least 2 years of Unreal experience and experience with Virtual Production considered a plus.
- Have knowledge of PBR workflow, HDR lighting, color temperature accurate lighting, exposure values, tone mapping and the basics of real-world cameras (focal length, aperture and sensor size).
- Good understanding of linear content creation workflows in Feature / TV Animation or VFX.
- Strong grasp of core components of Unreal Engine such as Material Editor and Shaders, Animation, Layout, Sequencer, Lighting etc.
- Strong After Effects skills including set extensions, shot stabilizing and tracking.
- Understanding 3d scene optimization for virtual production.
- Comfortable with Blueprint creation / modification.
- Excellent knowledge of the Unreal Engine asset and animation pipelines.
- Experience with Maya, Houdini, Blender and CD4.
- Working knowledge of A / R, V / R, and 360 video considered a plus.
- Deadline oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- A keen problem solver with the ability to create and / or pick up new workflows and provide feedback.
- A developed knowledge of the Visual Effects and associated pipelines.
- Proficient in MS Office 365, Windows & OSX operating systems. Able to effectively maintain written and computer records in accordance with company policies.
- Must be able to work at our studio in Kirkland, WA.
A combination of education, training, and experience which has provided theoretical and practical knowledge will be evaluated for equivalency.)
Nice to Have’s
- Experience with live compositing Ultimatte.
- Familiarity with DMX systems and triggers, especially in a studio setting.
- Experience with character rigging and retargeting for Unreal Engine.
- Experience with the Unreal Python API.
- Experience with real time camera tracking, Stype systems.
- Good knowledge of setting up particle systems in Niagara (UE4).
- Efficient with in-engine effects using Niagara (particles, explosions, fire, lightning etc.).
- Photogrammetry and 3d scanning skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is an exempt salary position and will be eligible for our benefits package which includes company sponsored health and dental plans as well as matching 401K.
- Starts out with annual accruals of up to 3 weeks paid vacation and one week paid sick leave, as well as 4 weeks supplemental parental leave with WA PFML program.
- Participation in company annual bonus plan.
