The Vice President of Medical Affairs, Western Wisconsin (VPMA) shall serve as an ad hoc member of the Senior Leadership Team of Amery Hospital & Clinic, Hudson Hospital & Clinic & Westfields Hospital & Clinic and together with Senior Leaders & Quality directors at each site, will ensure quality and safety of our patients.

The VPMA will actively participate in each organization’s policy development, regulatory compliance & readiness activities, strategic planning, and resource allocation processes, and serves as an ad hoc member of each hospitals’ Board of Directors.

The VPMA will support the Medical Executive Committees (MEC) at each site to ensure all required functions of the medical staff are carried out in accordance with regulatory requirements.

This position will work with clinical leaders in the Valley and across the HealthPartners care system to align quality, safety, and medical staff activities among the hospitals and across the organization.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination :
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical practice
  • Minimum of two (2) years of management or supervisory leader experience with demonstrated leadership, management and administrative skills and experience.
  • Leadership education / training (preferred).
  • Licensure / Registration / Certification :
  • or . (Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy), Board Certified; and current, valid, unrestricted Wisconsin medical license
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and highly effective interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints.
  • Strong administrative and communication abilities along with demonstrated competency in his / her medical specialty.
  • Ability to analyze financial as well as operational information and to make sound decisions based upon informed judgment.
  • Able to forge multiple partnerships to achieve organizational Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Knowledgeable regarding healthcare trends in community, state, region and nationally.
  • Knowledge of quality and process improvement methods and tools
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Provides strategic medical leadership (., chief medical officer-related duties) to Amery Hospital & Clinic (including its Rural Health Clinics), Hudson Hospital & Clinic, and Westfields Hospital & Clinic as a member of each site’s Senior Leadership Teams.

Has a presence at each site and develops partnerships across the organizations to achieve goals and objectives. Develops short and long-term goals that support ongoing delivery of high-quality, highly reliable care.

Creates appropriate alignment between the sites and with HealthPartners organizational goals and individual community needs.

Partners effectively with and serves as a liaison between key stakeholders including Valley Senior Medical Directors, Valley Executive Team, Valley Senior Leadership Team, Hospital Chiefs of Staff, Hospital Medical Staffs, Senior Leadership Teams, Service Line Medical Directors, Hospital Boards, Hospital Quality Directors, and other non-employed provider groups on the hospital campuses.

Contributes to site and system-wide policy formation, budgeting, capital and strategic planning, and related activities.

Makes recommendations that reduce risk and improve patient care outcomes. Attends appropriate committees and meetings at site, Valley, and HealthPartners level.

Confidently navigates matrixed leadership with diplomacy, creating lasting partnerships at all levels of the organization to positively influence outcomes, strategies, and decisions.

Meets and exceeds CMS, Joint Commission and other regulatory organizational and departmental standards and is involved in the survey process.

Assists in the oversight of CMS, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency processes to ensure compliance and accreditation within the scope of responsible units.

Works closely with Medical Staff, President, CNO, CFO, Quality Departments and Patient Experience leaders at each site to resolve patient grievances with appropriate communication to the individual raising the concern, and informing appropriate areas within the organization, and Risk Management as necessary.

Understands and ensures compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation for hospitals and critical access hospitals (all sites), provider-based (hospital-based) regulations (primarily Westfields, Amery) and rural health clinic designations (Amery) and has direct oversight of hospital-based medical directors.

Provides leadership of medical staff and actively involved in overall quality and safety activities to ensure compliance with appropriate standards and medical staff bylaws, implementation of quality improvement activities, including peer review, and adherence of the medical staff to the Code of Conduct.

Serves as integrator and leads conflict resolution as necessary between medical staff departments and department leaders at the local level.

Expected to be credentialed and privileged (., hold medical staff membership and clinical privileges) at all three hospitals.

Attends monthly medical staff committee meetings, such as MEC, quality / peer review, and credentials committees as necessary at all three locations.

Organizes CME that assists with medical education based on clinical and business needs. Provides support and mentorship of medical staff leaders at each site.
