Principal Agency Engineer

Primary applications include controls for clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, electric and gas cooking, ice makers, fluid dispensing, storage water heaters, gas valves for space / central heating, and automotive / off road temperature and fluid controls.

Role Purpose :
Lead the safety approval programs for mechanical, electromechanical, gas, electronic and / or water products or systems and ensure compliance to the certifying bodies' requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Analyze product specifications and marketing requirements to determine the regulatory standards and norms applicable to a design
- Determine the testing agency (i.e. UL, CSA, VDE, TUV, BSi, etc.) and certification requirements necessary for products as dictated by safety standards and marketing requirements
- Work with marketing, manufacturing, and design personnel to ensure compliance to the certification requirements at all stages of the design
- Maintain database of all relevant standards, codes, and norms appropriate for product regulatory requirements and specifications, including ratings for which the products have been approved
- Maintain the UL and CSA lab certifications to ISO / IEC 17025 requirements
- Build relationships with agency personnel and use information gained from these relationships to provide timely and meaningful information to project team members
- Provide technical information concerning agency issues, such as approved materials, components, etc.
- Support other test engineers in planning and developing appropriate testing programs when in-house certification is being performed
- Update the product descriptive / technical file as necessary so that compliance to the requirements of the certification agreement and / or contract is maintained
- Participate in Agency Standards Committees
- Ensure that all necessary agency documentation and procedures are in place at the product manufacturing locations
- Track and maintain agency cost / budget
- Foster long-term relationships with agency personnel by delivering high-quality service and value
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
Education & Experience :
Required :
- Relevant industry experience
- Experience interfacing with safety approval agencies
- Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting agency regulations and product safety standards, general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures
- Mechanical, Electrical, or other technical-based degree
Preferred :
- Experience working as part of a team in a project environment
- Bilingual - Spanish a plus
