Job Location : Simi Valley, CA
Shift : 1st and 2nd shift (onsite 5 days a week 6am-3pm or 3pm-12am)
Summary :
The Senior CNC Machinist, under direct supervision, is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce mechanical parts on 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines.
This role involves machining highly diversified and complex aerospace parts while strictly adhering to safety protocols within the manufacturing plant.
The machinist must understand their role within the Quality Management System (QMS) and its contribution to product quality and safety.
Roles & Responsibilities :
Maintain and implement AS 9100 procedures and actively participate in continuous improvement efforts.
Ensure strict adherence to departmental processes, safety regulations, and best practices.
Set up and operate CNC machines for tasks such as milling, drilling, boring, and tapping, ensuring precision and accuracy.
Collaborate with the CNC Programmer to design holding fixtures and select appropriate cutting tools required for machining operations.
Work closely with Program Management, Production, and Quality departments to ensure optimal workflow and communication.
Update machine setups and adjust operations to reflect current print / model revisions and engineering changes.
Operate CNC machines using various control systems including Okuma (mill-turn / multi-axis operations and probing) and Fanuc control.
Perform daily equipment and coolant maintenance to ensure smooth operation.
Work efficiently to meet deadlines and production schedules.
Assume accountability for the efficiency and quality of assigned duties.
Promptly report any issues or difficulties to the supervisor and propose viable solutions.
Understand the implications of product failure on customer satisfaction and maintain high-quality standards.
Education and Experience :
10+ years of experience as a CNC machinist in a machining environment.
Experience with setting up and operating CNC machines including 3D profiling, thread milling, and 4th axis programming.
Proficiency in interpreting and comprehending process work instructions, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
Hands-on experience with various basic machine shop equipment including drills, mills, lathes, grinders, and saws.
Proven experience operating 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements :
Proficient in standard and metric terminology with strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to calculate proper speeds and feeds for various machining operations.
Familiarity with machine controls, instrumentation, tooling, and setup procedures.
Working knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and lean manufacturing principles.
Familiarity with the QMS reporting system, effective record-keeping, and the ability to follow instructions diligently.
Experience with Okuma control systems (mill-turn / multi-axis operations and probing) and Fanuc control systems.
Experience with conventional machining and lathe turning operations.
Capability to perform daily equipment and coolant maintenance.
