Job Summary :
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs.
This role involves developing and implementing tailored educational plans, working closely with students, families, and other educators, and creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
The Special Education Teacher ensures that students with disabilities receive a high-quality education and achieve their academic and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities :
Instruction : Deliver personalized instruction to students with disabilities based on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles and needs.
IEP Development : Collaborate with parents, school staff, and other professionals to develop, review, and update IEPs. Monitor and assess students' progress towards IEP goals and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
Assessment : Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate students academic performance, behavioral progress, and social development.
Use assessment data to inform instruction and support strategies.
Classroom Management : Create and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment. Implement behavioral management plans and interventions as required to support students' social and emotional development.
Collaboration : Work closely with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure a coordinated approach to education.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
Family Engagement : Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on students progress, address concerns, and involve them in the educational process.
Provide guidance and support to families to help them understand and support their childs needs.
Professional Development : Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
Apply new strategies and techniques to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Documentation : Maintain accurate records of students progress, IEPs, assessments, and communications with families. Prepare reports and documentation for compliance with educational standards and regulations.
Advocacy : Advocate for the needs and rights of students with disabilities within the school and broader community. Promote awareness and understanding of special education issues.
Qualifications :
Education : Bachelors or masters degree in special education or a related field. Certification or licensure in Special Education is required.
Experience : Previous experience teaching students with disabilities or relevant internship experience preferred. Experience with diverse learning needs and instructional strategies is beneficial.
Skills :
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students and their families.
Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
Skilled in using various teaching strategies and assistive technologies.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.
Other Requirements :
Valid teaching license or certification in the state of Pennsylvania.
Ability to pass background checks and other pre-employment screenings.
Working Conditions :
The position involves working in classroom settings and may require travel between different school locations.
Flexibility in scheduling may be needed to accommodate students' needs and school activities.
