Seeking qualified applicant for position of itinerant special education teacher for students with visual impairments. Duties include : providing assistive technology and software support for academic content learning, providing specialized intervention services to students with visual impairments, providing accommodations and modifications, as appropriate, to general education teachers, collaborating with teachers, administrators, therapists and parents, evaluating and supporting independence in orientation and mobility, writing effective and compliant IEPs, and following due process timelines and procedures set forth by Georgia Special Education Rules and Dekalb County Department of Exceptional Education.
A thorough, working knowledge of visual acuity and perceptual needs and their relationship to accessing the general curriculum is required.
Orientation and Mobility certification desired.

Identifies educational needs and provides instruction to students with specific learning disabilities, mild intellectual disabilities, autism, other health impaired, traumatic brain injury, and emotional and behavioral disorders.
Essential Functions :

- Instruct students based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); assesses and monitors student progress.
- Develops lesson plans; identifies instructional materials; assesses equipment needs to augment instruction; maintains student data;
utilizes a variety of instructional strategies to improve student achievement in a general curriculum; and promotes positive student behavior.
- Schedules and prepares relevant paperwork; and conducts IEP meetings.
- Consults and collaborates with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals regarding students' educational programming.
- Participates in departmental meetings and professional learning activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in relevant special educational field required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PERMITS :
- Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in appropriate special educational field at level T-4 or above required.
- Valid Professional Standards Commission approved special education endorsements required.
