The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our team in Denver, CO or Beaverton, OR

Come be part of a highly talented and collaborative team, where you will have the opportunity and agency to work across teams and functions to craft the industry leading visual experiences for our customers and support DAT’s market leading freight and analytics platform.

As a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will be responsible for creating high quality software that is both reliable and easy to support.

You will also be helping to establish standards, create frameworks and guidelines for fostering customer-first development practices in the company.

As well as these responsibilities, you'll be working with new technologies to forward our business initiatives and modernize some of our legacy components.

Candidate profile

  • Veteran engineer with proven breadth and / or depth of technical expertise.
  • Typically a go-to person within a team or technology that positively impacts the quality and / or productivity of their team.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a project or feature including planning, design, development, and deployment.
  • Ensures technical and inter-team dependencies are noted and well understood by the team.
  • Works within their team to foster a culture of priority setting and urgency in all aspects of delivery.
  • Improves code structure and architecture in service of testability, maintainability and observability.
  • Writes, co-writes, and reviews design documentation. Provides constructive criticism.
  • Is highly proficient and productive in one or more technical areas.
  • Monitors adherence to DAT Engineering and team standards and practices, recommends additions and / or refinements.
  • Mentors other engineers, individually and in groups.
  • Evaluates engineering candidates by conducting technical screening interviews.
  • Collaborate with architecture groups to guide and define the technical direction of new and existing applications and capabilities.
  • Leverage AWS to deliver cloud-native solutions.
  • Write unit, integration, and functional tests.
  • Document software systems and project tasks.
  • Participate in design & code reviews.

What You’ll Do

  • Work cross-functionally to craft industry leading software experience for our customers.
  • Work across the stack from UI to database.
  • Design and develop REST APIs and other code that is reliable, maintainable, and extendable.
  • Leverage AWS to deliver efficient, cloud-native front-end solutions.
  • Write unit, integration, and functional tests, and guide others in doing the same.
  • Document software designs and project tasks.
  • Review functional requirements and analyze their impact on schedule and software design.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and direction to other team members.
  • Design and develop front-end interfaces and other code that is reliable, maintainable, and extendable.
  • Participate in design / code reviews.
  • Translate business needs and requirements into technical specifications.
  • Document software designs and project tasks.
  • Work with team members to improve development processes and practices.

The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience working up and down the stack.
  • Strong proficiency with front end technologies such as CSS, JS, and HTML.
  • Experience with Modern Web UI Frameworks : Angular, React, etc.
  • Applied Knowledge of Modern Server Frameworks such as Node, or Spring Boot.
  • Applied Knowledge of REST / GraphQL APIs and established best practices.
  • Modern object oriented scripting languages such as Javascript, Typescript, or equivalent.
  • Practical experience with Cloud-Native Development such as in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience creating and contributing to data driven websites that provide end users with actionable insights.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps pipeline and build / deploy tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with Product Managers, Product Owners, and UX / UI Designers to distill high level requirements into actionable technical requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal, written communication skills.
  • Adept at effectively working with professionals from a wide range of disciplines.
  • Passionate about delivering high quality results.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Practical experience of Design Principles and Patterns.
  • Lead the team to help improve on-call experience, on-call handoff and improve the operational state of the team’s services.
  • Applied Knowledge with unit testing.
  • Applied Knowledge with Agile and at least one agile methodology such as SCRUM, XP, or SAFE.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Bonus Skills

  • AWS native technologies such as Kinesis, DynamoDB, RDS, Lambda, SES / SNS / SQS, API Gateway, S3, Route53.
  • Understanding of messaging systems like Kafka.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch / OpenSearch.
  • Applied knowledge of Cloud-native deployment tech like Terraform, CloudFormation.
  • Experience lifting and shipping legacy applications from on-premise / co-located data centers to cloud platforms.
  • Applied Knowledge of Microservices and related best practices.
  • Experience with A / B testing using industry standard tooling such as Optimizely, Mixpanel, Segment, etc.
  • Experience with containerization and local development toolings for Docker & Kubernetes.
  • Experience with object-oriented / functional programming languages : Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.

For Colorado-based candidates, in compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the minimum salary for this role is $120,000.
