Job Summary
The Independent Living Skills (ILS) Instructor at Minnesota Independence College and Community (MICC) works directly with students by teaching life skills and supporting them in acquiring and using these skills.
Essential Functions

- Develop, implement, and teach a curriculum based on student and program needs
- Skill assessment and the creation of individualized accommodations for student skill acquisition
- Be involved in programming during family weekends and other events as needed
- An ILS Instructor is specifically involved in the following areas of instruction : cooking, menu planning, fitness, personal finance, and more areas of independent living
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements :
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Education or Special Education, Youth Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or working toward such a degree or possess equivalent experience
- Experience in working with young adults with learning disabilities is highly desirable
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills

- Ability to identify and assist in solving problems using strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to relate to and motivate a diverse population
- Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility and good judgment
- Maintain confidentiality of organizational, employee and student information
- Demonstrate professionalism in work performance and communication with others
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with strong oral and written communication skills

- 80 hours / 10 days (accrued at 3.33 hours per pay period) of paid sick time
- 80 hours / 10 days (holiday schedule available upon request) of paid holidays
- 8 hours / 1 day for floating holiday
