RESPONSIBILITIES :
Special education teachers play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs.
- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) : Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s unique needs, collaborating with parents, specialists, and other educators.
- Assessment : Conduct assessments to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, monitor progress, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Instructional Strategies : Design and deliver effective, differentiated instruction that accommodates various learning styles and abilities.
- Behavior Management : Create and enforce behavior management plans to promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Collaboration : Work closely with general education teachers, therapists, and other specialists to coordinate support and resources for students.
- Advocacy : Advocate for students’ needs and rights, ensuring they have access to appropriate resources and services.
- Professional Development : Stay informed about best practices, legal requirements, and advancements in special education through ongoing professional development.
- Family Engagement : Communicate regularly with families about student progress, needs, and ways they can support learning at home.
- Documentation : Maintain accurate records of student progress, IEP meetings, and communications with families and other professionals.
- Community Resources : Connect families with community resources and support services as needed.
These responsibilities aim to create a supportive and effective learning environment that promotes the success of students with special needs.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must have Special Education Teaching Certification in Illinois / Professional Educators License (PEL)
- Must have at least 1 year SPED teacher experience
