Property Accountant to join our team and help us achieve our goals.

Job Summary

The Sr. Property Accountant will be responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of properties, while also supporting as needed across the entire Insite portfolio.

We are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to become a subject matter expert in commercial lease administration, with training provided as needed.

This position will report to the Accounting Manager and work closely with property managers, the leasing teams, and other members of the financial services team.

Responsibilities

Property Accounting :

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Complete the preparation of Month End and Year End Financial Statements and financial packages for a portfolio of properties, including the preparation of bank reconciliations, Balance Sheet reconciliation, Income Statement, journal entries, and preparing the forecast and budget presentation.
  • Investigate and report on variance analysis findings on the Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
  • Proactively identify, investigate and resolve discrepancies or inconsistencies in ledger entries, investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Oversee and perform lease administration of commercial tenants.
  • Own the commercial lease process and administration in the Yardi database.
  • Preparing billing and invoices to outside parties.
  • Assist with preparation of the Monthly and Annual Corporate and Property Budgets.
  • Process, review and approve accounts payable invoices.
  • Assist in Preparation of annual 1099’s.

Supervisory :

  • Assist the Accounting Manager with cash management, preparing funding requests, training of other team members, preparing intercompany transactions, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Participate in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Monitor and maintain internal control directives in compliance with company policy.
  • Support the Accounting Manager with overall financial reporting across the entire Insite portfolio.

Customer and Client Relations :

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for commercial tenants, including providing monthly statements, ensuring timely collection of rent payments, addressing any issues or discrepancies as they arise and prompt responses to inquiries related to financial matters.
  • Address commercial tenant billing inquiries, resolve disputes, and provide timely and courteous responses to tenant requests.
  • Play a vital part in the company's financial management which includes reporting, presenting and correspondence to necessary parties, including 3rd party owners.
  • Support onsite team on accounting-related issues.

Qualifications

  • A BS / BA degree required in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of direct accounting experience, with at least 3 years of property management accounting experience.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experienced with Yardi Voyager software and knowledge in commercial real estate and lease administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Attention to detail combined with a systematic and analytical mindset, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks. Highly organized, adept at maintaining meticulous records and documentation to support informed decision-making processes.
  • Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills are necessary for interaction with clients, ownership, lenders, banks and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficient in preparing and presenting financial statement reports and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Skilled in identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks concurrently, ensuring timely completion while accommodating shifting priorities.
  • Ability to lead and mentor accounting teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Experience in delegating tasks, setting goals, and providing constructive feedback.
