Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Student Organizations & Activities, the Associate Director for the Center for Student Organizations and Activities is responsible for supporting the management of student activities aimed at campus engagement, inclusive diversity, campus community, and leadership development.
The Associate Director will collaborate and coordinate programming efforts for multiple departments within the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, Associated Students, and across campus.
Some of the duties assigned to this position include supporting the Recognized Student Organization process for registration and event permits, expanding alternative programs on campus, managing staff, and collaborating with the departments across campus, including Associated Students, in coordinating and communicating student organization and departmental / divisional activities and events.
The Associate Director should be student-oriented, self-motivated, collaborative, organized, innovative, enthusiastic, creative, and able to communicate well with the students, faculty, staff, potential donors, and community members.
The incumbent will also facilitate expanded communications and collaborations with all campus entities. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, proficiency in desktop publishing, word processing, and website concept development, are required of the incumbent.
Evening and weekend work are routinely part of this position.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
Standard SDSU work hours are Monday Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Office of the Dean of Students supervises, monitors, and implements programs and services that directly impact orientation, transition, and overall student success and retention.
These programs and services are designed to ease the transition to the University, enhance student involvement / participation in university organizations, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Education and Experience
Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field is required.
Four years of professional experience in higher education or a related field.
Experience advising and / or counseling students in an academic and / or co-curricular setting.
Experience in developing, implementing, and assessing various leadership, cultural, and other student programs, events, and activities.
Experience advising / planning events and programs on a collegiate level and contemporary use of technology in a university setting.
Key Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies, and others in committee work, student advising, and community contacts.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions that affect other programs or service areas.
Experience in developing and managing multiple budgets and event coordination.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Experience working in a large, urban, diverse higher education setting.
Experience in event planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation.
Experience developing and assessing student learning outcomes, including general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
