Overview
Assist the cancer patient and family in understanding and dealing with the significant social, emotional and financial impact of cancer.
Responsibilities
- Provides social casework where appropriate to patients of the Manderson Cancer Center and their families.
- Prepares social histories determining level of service taking family relationships, cultural attitudes and financial impact of illness into consideration.
- Facilitates referrals to community agencies for financial assistance and other resources as needed.
- Maintains ongoing, supportive counseling with patients and family members to meet social and emotional needs relative to the cancer patient, death and bereavement.

- Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
- Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work licensed and registered or certified by the State of Alabama. At least one (1) year of experience in medical or oncologic social work and be experienced with family assessments.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

- Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
