Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Western US. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer-modified asphalt, and asphalt emulsions to the road maintenance and construction industry.

Johnny B Transport is a subsidiary of Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. and is the trucking division. Johnny B Transport hauls asphalt for Idaho Asphalt Supply and their other affiliated companies.

Idaho Asphalt Supply is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team as the Division Controller for the Transportation division.

Position Overview :

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Division Controller is a highly skilled individual that provides accounting oversite and reporting for the transportation division.

The Division Controller also serves as the primary point of contact for the Vice President of Transportation and the General Manager for all financial functions of the Transportation division.

The Division Controller must be detail oriented, with a strong understanding of financial reporting and systems. This position must thrive in an environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented.

The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, financial, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.

The Division Controller will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

This position will be based in the Idaho Falls, Idaho office.

Position Responsibilities

  • Oversees the accounting and reporting function for the transportation division.
  • Monitors and ensures all accounting policies and procedures are followed while maintaining internal controls.
  • Works with the Vice President of Transportation and the General Manager to develop accurate and timely financial reports for the transportation division.
  • Monitor and report on key financial metrics including analysis of transportation-related costs.
  • Provide financial input on business initiatives and capital investments and support decision-making with data-driven insights and financial analysis.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data within the transportation division’s systems.
  • Ensures month-end is closed accurately by established timelines and standards.
  • Assists the Corporate Controller with month-end closing for all entities.
  • Reviews all systems and reports to ensure proper inventory control and that movement and counts of inventory are accurately reflected in financial records.
  • Oversees reconciliation of inventories and ensures expenses are correctly tracked for each transportation unit.
  • Reviews and recommends accounting process improvements including month-end processes and audit controls.
  • Assists with internal and external financial audit processes and ensures that financial controls and policies are followed.
  • Assists with forecasting and planning processes as needed.
  • Employs best practices, policies, and processes to monitor and ensure appropriate control environment.
  • Other responsibilities and projects may develop or be assigned as needed.
  • Prioritizes conflicting needs; handles matters expeditiously, proactively, and follows-through on responsibilities and projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.
  • Provides a bridge for smooth communication between the Transportation and Accounting teams; demonstrating leadership to maintain credibility, trust, and support.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 7 years professional experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager.
  • 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of reporting and financial systems.
  • Highly resourceful; can solve problems independently and create useful and unique solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and can learn company systems and processes.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Emotional maturity.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer / client service and response.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a good sense of humor.
  • MBA strongly preferred.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
